950 Holley HP on a 496 BBC

I need some help in choosing a carb for my 1969 Chevelle. It is a strip only 496 BBC with 13 to 1 compression, Dart 325 Pro 1 heads, Lunati .722/.722 solid roller cam, and a Victor Jr. intake. The car has a powerglide, 10 inch converter and 4.33 rear gear. I have a Holley 950 HP on it now with a two inch open spacer. I am leary of trying it on the quarter mile because of a lack of cfm. I have access to a 1050 Dominator with a 4150 adapter. Should I even give the 950 a chance or go ahead and switch to the 1050?

950

Since You have the 950 on there, Id try it. I would have the 1050 bolted to the adapter and ready to swap out. Be nice to see the difference. I ran a Dart funnel ram on my 572. Good luck. TC

i run a 496 mine is 10:5 comp. with a little less cam than yours. i have a 950 on mine i run 1/8 its about right on mine. im thinking the 1050 would probably run a little better on your motor. jmo

A 950 hp is not really a 950 cfm carb the way I hear it...can't remember the details. That said I had one on a 454 and it worked well.

Thanks for all the advice. I will let you know how everything turns out. I am going to go out on Friday if the weather will cooperate.

I run a 850dp that flowed 940ish on a bench on my 496 with 10.7 cc and a .680-.702 solid roller and it works good..

I have a 750 cfm carb that bench flows almost 1000 cfm. This carb was recommended because I am more street than strip with my 496 engine. Keeping the air velocity up through the carb will make it more drivable vs. a 1050 dominator. I have no personal exp with a 1050 dom but was told that is best for strip only, wide open driving. Won't be very street friendly.

The 1050 will be faster if the metering and jetting is correct.
