hOW MUCH POWER WILL A 9" HOLD
 

I'm building a 1000 hp blown bbc for my 67Camaro. I'm a little concerned about how much power I can put to the rear end. It's a 9" Ford with Strange 35 spline axles and Richmond gears. Car ways 2760. Tires are 15" x 15" x 37" tall. Thanks.

Your axles are fine. and the rear will be fine IF :
1- Its properly braced for insurance.
2- Good center section preferably with LARGE pinion yoke
3- good pinion bearing support

and alot of people don't do this but i have on all my cars is a Billet SLIP Yoke

BUT I HAVE NEVER HAD OVER 450 HORSES IN MY MUSTANGS

37 inch tall tire? wow. Talk about stretching the wheel openings.

he's gotta be speaking of the roll out (growth)..lol....

If I remember correctly when the pro stock cars had around that amount of HP they were sucessfully running 35sp axles.Blown BB torque I would imagine be more than these N/A engines.What does your axle manufacturer think/say?

its how much the tire will grow in circumference when under full throttle ( watch back tires on Top fuel cars)

this is what you need to really be concerned with when buying tires..you can actually have a 33 inch tall tire with a shorter circumference (growth,rollout) than a 32 inch tall tire..
example..i have a M/T 33X17 on my camaro..its considered a short tire cause the roll out (growth) is 101 inches . i went with this short growth tire cause its an all motor car with a 500 gear and i wanted to turn it a little more.
my 14x32's has close to 103 roll out...about a 200 rpm difference thru the traps than my short roll out tire

my 16x33's on my Old vette had a 105 inch roll out ( growth)

also the reason Radial tires ( now have radial slicks) are so fast cause they have no growth to them..they are fast .fast..but more trick to hook :x



next time you buy tires pay close attention to that..also be sure to tell whomever you buy the tires from that you want an even measurement on your tires and check the circumference when you get them...

Thanks for all the replies. Maybe I measured the tires wrong. I'll check. These tires were on the car when I bought it. It's all set up for Nitrous but I'm not a big fan of Nitrous. It's fine for anybody who likes, I just prefer a blown car with the same hp. I'll check out the yoke as well.

i wouldnt worry about the axels they are more then sufficient, the housing is what i would be worried about, according to the chassis shops if you are making more then 700 horsepower you should step up to a molly fab rearend, i know there are alot of people running stock housings and getting away with it but if it was me i would step up to a molly one so i can sleep at night, also if you do stay with the stock housing i would make sure you have a back brace on it,, good luck...
