sbc 9800 rpm's
 

i have a buddy telling me the garage built sbc he wants to build will be able to hit 9800 and hold up what do you guys think i personal say not a chance in hell nascar runs 9400-9800 and have tens of thousands in the engines
so what do you guys think

that aint that high these days
 

Pro stock in NHRA turns there 500"BBC 11,000 plus at the stripe and a SB2 small block can easily handle 11,000 RPM for drag racing purposes.
What he is saying is not an unrealistic rpm for a SBC with a killer expensive valve train and non stock rotating assembly pieces including the block.

i dont doubt a small block can but not the way he is planning on doing it with the stock 2 bolt block he gonna use i dont think it's gonna hold up nor will the cheap parts he plans on useing

I am not an expert here, but in a garage-built SBC on a lower budget I would focus on the max HP via the best power-curve you can get while holding together. In other words, not so much emphasis on high RPM necessarily. Why so much focus on the RPM if the torque curve & the longevity will suffer?
