flat tappet vs roller
What do you guys think if I switch my current combo:
383,13-1,.558 int,.550 ex,260,[email protected] comp flat tappet,stock 215 Dart Iron Eagle Platinums,Manley 6 inch rods,Super Victor port matched,750 APD Alky carb, in my 3100 lb 68 camaro,to a COMP ROLLER#12-906-9,.276,[email protected],.630,.630@107?How much H.P. do you think this roller will gain,if any? |
camshaft
May I ask what gear and tire, do you run 1/8 or 1/4 also how much rpm do you want to turn your motor. Later J.Smith 4621 racing

I use a 4.56,9x30 with 94 inch rollout phoenix slick and run 7000 in the 1/4
|
I'd say an easy 50Hp over what you got now, maybe more.
Everything you mentioned in your combo is screaming for a solid roller cam. You won't be disappointed. JMO>Cp |
I'm not in disagreement with Charles on this, but i did a similar swap about 9 yrs. ago in a 406", from a .595 lift flat tappet cam to a .625 roller 106 lobe ctrs. spent close to $1,000.00 and only gained 1/10, but i have to admit i've never in my life time of racing seen a better flat tappet cam than the .595 bullit cam which i still own. My friend Jimmy Smith can verify this because he knows when i did it. There's no question in my mind that the roller should run better, it just did not do that in my combination @ 3250 lbs.

My opinion probly will make more HP but not in the usable range. two things i say 60' will be slower , This cam should be in a 2500lb car turning 7500-7800 put a 255-263 or 260-265 @50 and you will like it a lot more. Facts with my car 3200 lbs 5.38 gear and 97"rollout tire Later J.Smith 4621 racing
