anyone explain

I've seen many some on here. They are chevy trucks with olds engines seen a half dozen in wrecking yards. was this some thing that happened in great north and trickled down or some thing? Oddest truck i personally seen is mid 80's 3/4 ton pontiac crew cab

The chebbie diesels were based on the olds block, when they went up in flames, you could put a BOP, or caddy in fairly easy, didn't have to swap trannies...

but most i seen wher not desiels just wondering weird od balls i guess

when the diesel either quit or they got tired of the expensive repairs(i used to work at a olds dealership), they would look for a 350 or 403? olds engine and just swap them out. they had to use the olds engine due to the transmission bolt pattern. they were surprisingly econimical to run and got good mileage.

ok works for me had a 79 Lesabre sport coupe that was swapped from turbo 3.8 to old 403 loved that engine went through 3 trans one limited slip before she threw a rod ( th400 in low going 70 not to cool)

yeah, the 403 was pretty stout. with the gearing in the pu it made for a stout combo. had to make sure to put what engine was in it on the underhood decal so the next owner could id it for parts later.
