Headers for a nova

I am thinking of changing my headers I have never liked the way they fit and I believe I needs 1 3/4 in instead of 1 5/8. My heads are Dart pro 1 215 with if I remember right they are rectangle exhaust ports and my headers are made for round ports. I think there is a 1/10 or so in the restriction maybe more. The combo a 383 sbc 12.6 to 1 compression dart pro 1 215 heads 2.05 int 1.60 exhaust flat tapped solid lift cam victor jr intake with a 850 Cfm carb running E85 backed by a TH350 and a 4,000 stall and 4.56 gear in the rear. The car could use a little more stall just wondering thoughts on headers. I shift a 6,500 rpm.

You would actually be better off with 1 7/8" headers, but might have to run spacer plates because most of them have a stahl patern. I run hookers on my 377" and befroe that a 406" with alcohol i have track1's which is not as good as your heads. But i may be spinning my motor tighter than you are, with a 5.43 gear with a PG. The car will run 6.50's @ 3250 lbs.

Thanks, I will look at some 1 7/8 also I will start price checking soon but I have to buy a set of slicks first. This motor has never ran what I thought it should and this will be the first year in a long time I will be running on the regular basis(I hope) so I thought about fixing the header problem. I would really like to get the car to run around 7.0 in the 1/8th current average is mid 7.30s. Zipper your cars weight is close to mine. Do you think there could be 3/10ths in the headers? That seems like a lot but I could be wrong.

You're definately leaving something on the table with 1 5/8" headers I don't know if there's 3 tenths there. It depends on the cam and you could definately use more stall in the converter.
Below is a 388" motor i built in 2010, in this Camero it ran 6.28@113 with a toilet bowl and alcohol with 1 7/8" hesders. it ran awful good for about 50 passes until it broke a valve head and did a lot of damage, it had a 5500 stall converter. The car now has a 408" engine same cam, heads and toilet bowl. it ran 6.12 at Twin Cities here in La. in Oct. 2013. It weighs 3,000 lbs.
if you go to 1 3/4" or 1 7/8" you'll have 3 1/2 collectors, definately a plus
