oil accumulator

I just installed a Moroso oil accumulator with a Moroso Sandwich plate between the engine and filter. The accumulator T's into this plate after the oil goes through the filter and before it enters the engine. What alarms me is that on intial start-up my oil pressure is half(35psi) what it was before the accumulator installalation. Is this normal , will my pressure be back up to 60-70psi once the Accumulator is full of oil? Anyone else experience this? I only ran it for 15-20 seconds. I had to sleep on it.By the way just a little 500hp 383.

What size lines are you using?

2.5 feet of -10 from the adapter to the accumulator.

How much air pressure did you put into the accumulator?

Do you have a manual shut off valve on the accumulator after it fills with oil?

85psi , bled it down to 5psi , started the engine with the filter prefilled with Redline 20W50.

Sorry , it has an electric valve.

Got a different filter , problem gone.

What oil filter was it? A FRAM? Let us know so others will not have the same problem.

Oh and 6lbs of air in the accumulator is enough air pressure to operate it.

Thanks, Tom

Fram the number one killer of oil pressure.

X2 5-10 psi in Acc.

We don't use or recommend accusumps for this simple reason. when your pan runs dry the accusump forces oil stored under pressure into the motor.unfortunately the oil pump is pumping massive amounts of air into the oil galley at the same time.the mixture of oil and air mix doesn't supply the hydro dynamic wedge of oil necessary to protect the bearings to make matters worse the oil pressure stays up so there is no warning light or needle drop to alert the driver, first thing the driver hears is a rod leaving the engine.
The solution is to fix the problem with oil return to the crankcase and use the accusump for pre oiling the engine but turn it off before racing so if theres a pressure problem the driver will see it before the loud bang.Bill
