max tire height
This may be a stupid question but here goes....
I am shopping for new wheels. I run a 32x14 goodyear stiff sidewall slick. I noticed on Summit's page in their description for convo pros that they have a max tire height of 30 inches. I also noticed they say that Weld draglites not to be used with a tire over 31 inches I think....my question is WHY? Obviously lots of people run tires bigger than this...at least it appears they do...the "good" wheels such as Alumastar and the Magnums do not list this limitation. What is the thinking behind this? |
Wow,I never knew that.Gonna have to do some research.I don't guess they are afraid the centers are to weak to hold a taller tire?

From what I understand "olds48" is right on this. The wheels are not rated for alot of weight to be put on the centers, maybe because they are a 2-piece aluminum wheel? Not sure. I was thinking they listed these limitations mainly for a 4x4..?

I know a guy with a tube frame Beretta that runs 5.30's that broke a Bogart wheel. Busted the center right out of it when he launched. It didn't tear up the car but he said first thing he thought was broken axle...he was very lucky he didn't crash or rip the side off of the car. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku |
MY PROBLEM IS THIS-----IF THEY PUT OUT A WARNING LIKE THIS ON A SUPPOSEDLY GOOD WHEEL   THEN WHAT HAPPENS IF THE CENTER BREAKS OUT FROM SIDELOAD IF YOU GET TWISTED UP AT 100 MILES AN HOUR    ---NO THANKS I WILL KEEP MY TRIED AND TRUE WHEELS 8) 8) 8) 8)

A taller tire would put more leverage on the wheels center.
Not sure how much it effects it, but it does. |

Not sure how much it effects it, but it does. The thought of forking out 400 bucks a wheel for the Magnums or AlumaStars kills me. :( But if it is a real safety issue I will have to I guess...cause I can't stand looking at these old "Tricks" or "AutoDrags" or whatever they are any longer. |
Mt buddy,Tommy, has been running 33x10.50s on a set of convo pros for years. My neighbor Kirby has a set of 31x14.5 on a set of convo pros that go on his 61 Galaxie.I wouldn't worry about it,personally.Just my opinion

Well the info I had was from Summit racing website. I looked on Centerline's Website and they do indeed say "30 inch tall tire limit"
BUT they say that does not apply to drag slicks. :D http://www.centerlinewheels.com/whee...d=34&sw_id=364 |
