valve spring strenght.

if you are going to set your engine up for a few months would it be best to back off the lash to keep tension off the springs are is it not nessasary.

Back them off, leaving all valves closed.

Wouldn't it be more effective if ya just totally removed the rocker assemblies ? The lobes that are in the open position will probably make the valve end still hit the rocker......
Depending on how humid the storage environment is and how long in that storage, you may also want to spray some WD or the like into the passages to protect the valve seats

I would back them off and do like DrivingMissDD said, spray some WD-40 into the motor. JMO

After rereading the inital post he's got a Jessel system, he has no option except to remove the rocker assy, since if the geomerty is set right he only has 1 full turn adjustment. 7/16"X20 pitch=.050 total adjustment. I believe Jessel is like T&D's and they recommend 1 turn from full backed up adjuster as to where the geomerty should be.

Heres what I do.
I live in the south and this may not apply to you, just my 2 cents.

I have T/D's and instead of taking the rocker arm assemblies off I just make a habit of spinning the motor over about once a week, on warmer days I'll crank it up and let it idle till it gets to normal operating tempature and call it good.

I just turn the crank every few weeks. That's what I've done for years and what ReherMorrison recommends on their engines......

I agree with zipper on this...I have a T&D on a BBC, and I always remove the rocker assemblies on the cylinder that are affected by the cam lobes being up on that cylinder.

Come on now. Do we think you will really losen the valves vs cranking the monster every one in a while?
