461 heads that are factory angle plug

I have a set of 461 heads that i am using for my 355ci and they are angle plug and do not know what they are off of. They have the casting number 3782461 and they are factory angled towards the exhaust valve. They were reworked at a machine shop and have 2.02 vlaves and 1.60 valves.

If the heads are off the car now, I would look at them real close. I am 99% sure all 461's were straight plug heads, but there were machine shops in the 70's and 80's that would plug the straight hole, and drill and tap the angled plug. There was a thread on here, or speedtalk from someone looking for the plugs. I think the only older GM angle plug heads were the "292" turbo heads, that were bought over the counter.

see if they have an x in valve cover area. they are probably the 461x casting which is angle or straight plug. they came both ways depending on application.

IIRC 461 & 462 (double or camel hump) "fuellie" heads only came straight plug.I have a pair of 461s in a/p but they have been converted. The later 492"fuelly" heads which have the drilled & machined front & rear for accessories came in both angle & straight plug,as did the 292"Turbo"head.

The angle plug versions weren't ever on a production vehicle but available as a race only head. I think they were referred to as "turbo" heads. Don't know why.....
