Th400 or Poweglide ?

I've been going round for round on this decision as my research so far has not convinced me to lean in either direction. Are there any experienced builders or racers out there that can offer some first hand knowledge about this topic? Most comparisons I see ask about car weight and HP/Torque. This is a pro-street car that is driven short distances on occassion for car cruises, etc (approx. 300mi/yr). Here is the relavant information about my car.

68 Firebird
3300 lbs w/driver
474 stroker Pontiac
742 crank HP & 672 ftlb torque
Th350 trans w/4500 stall
3.73 rear gear
28" x 10" slick

Currently runs 9.90s at 136mph....1.42 @ 60'

Thanks,
Bob

That's good for a driver for sure what is your reason for wanting to change your trans .

for me if i was going to drive it on the street and wanted to make it stronger i would go with the turbo 400 and for racing the glide is not going to help you really because of the weight of the car.

The reason i say that is because i did that a few years ago went from a turbo 400 to a glide and didn't help as far as ET goes it was in a nova at 3500 lbs the 60 foot slowed down and the ET also the only real advantage for me was going to air or electric shift the shifters are cheaper .

So it all depends on what you are trying to accomplish.

with the weight of the car, stick with the turbo 400. Good Luck Powergiide works great with lighter cars. JMO

A th400 won't break. They last forever, put it in there and forget about it.

400 would be more fun to drive.

And engine powerband control if you want to change out the rear end ratio.

Forgot to mention I want to change the Th350 because I intend to start using Nitrous, which will put me at about 1000HP total (more than I want to trust my TH350 to handle), and I would like to install a trans-brake.

Thanks
