Leaving in high gear with a dragster????

I am going to try leaving in high gear to calm car down enough to run a 5.50 index class. It is only going to slip the converter, not the tranny right? Car currently runs 4.80's so leaving in high may not be enough. Going to run a regular bracket race this weekend just to test it.

What do you guy's think???

Think I will have tranny heat issues? Currently runs around 140-160 degrees even in late rounds almost like round robin.

Are you going to footbrake the car? What tree? I don't think heat will be much of a problem if that is what your car is running for temps now.

High gear slows mine from 4.70s to 5.1s only, you'll gain 30-60 degrees trans temp in later rounds but with good fluid it wont matter.

I am running trans brake, shifting by time. My shift time is going to be at 0.000 so it will shift when trans brake releases.

Hammertime, I run tractor hyd. fluid for trans fluid. Have ran it for years with zero issues, but never leaving in high. I think it will be fine.

Also, how much delay should I expect to take out. Last race I was at 1157 in the semi's, I was .006 but broke out by .003

I just asked because not many people have high gear trans brakes. Good luck.

You dont want to leave at 00 on the shift, do it at .10,.15 or .20 even. Reason being you leave it at that it'll screw up your RT major and wont slow it down but a hund or 2 more. Surely not worth it messing up your RT

Thanks for the info, I would have messe up today, however we was called up three times and rained every time. Finally after 4 hours they called the race. Thanks for the help.

I have been driving my bosses Pro Mod Camaro the past couple of weeks so I have not had a chance to run my car in high gear. Hope to try it this weekend.
Hammertime, I will put .30 in the box before the shift to insure the reaction time is not jacked up.

My first weekend in the Pro Mod, it runs 4.14@176 on a junk race track..... What a ride!!!!!!!!!!!

I totally agree with short shifting. Leaving with .00 the box soul a disaster waiting to happen to me. I think I would try around .50 into the run....that way if you have any tire slippage it should be passed that point, and just go from there. Just my two pennies.
