C Clip Eliminator Installation Question

We have a 10 Bolt rearend in a 74 Camaro, this is a drag car only. I bought a set of Moser axles with C clip eliminators.

In the installation instructions, it said to cut off the rearend housing where the eliminators bolt on to 1/4" and I have done that. The problem is, it seems the new axles with the eliminator/bearing don't quite fit all the way up to the bolt holes on the brake flange. I think it is suppose to fit flush.

After doing some measuring, the problem appears that the rearend housing is cut correctly, but inside the rearend housing end, where the old wheel bearings and seals were is the problem.

Where the old wheel bearings were, there is a slight lip, I filed off a little of this lip and the axle did go in a little further, but I am afraid to remove to much of this material since this is the axle housing. Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for any help.

isn't that lip where the bearing race seated at? I wouldn't think it would matter cause your bearings are self contained as one unit and pressed onto the axle aren't they? They don't ride on a race inside the rearend ..at least I think that's how they are.

C Clip installation

Yes, the lip is where the wheel bearing was. I just didn't want to get the housing too thin, but maybe it doesn't matter that much.

filing that lip won't hurt anything, just don't get carried away and make sure you put gasket sealer were the new bearing & axle housing go together ,if you don't it will pour rearend oil out. good luck
