New carb seems to flood

We have a 383 SBC with a Holley vacuum carb. The carb is pretty new. The fuel pump is a mechanical Holley 110 GPH. The engine seems to be almost or slightly flooding all the time, even at say 3000 RPM.

Could this pump be too much for the carb and need a pressure regulator? I have checked the float level by taking out the side inspection plugs and the carb seems pretty full.

Thanks for any help.

Put a regulater on it and set at about 6-61/2 psi.

What do you mean the carb "seems pretty full" ?

The float level should be just at the bottom edge of the sight plug hole. If fuel poors out when you take it out the float level is too high. If the float level is correct then it is possible the needle and seat are sticking...but then it would flood over usually. Make sure you have a good fuel filter.

I agree a regulator is a quick fix ...

are you over-powering the needle and seats putting fuel into the motor ?
