Need help with gear selection

I have a 97 s-10 with a 406 13.5to1 276- 284@50 .759 lift, .739 exh, Air Wolf 220 heads 1050 dominator.forged rotating assy. powerglide 1.76 9.5"6000stall, rear end has 4:56 now with 33x10.5w tires. I havent made a pass yet its a new motor looking to go through the traps 7000-7500. I run both 1/8 and 1/4 mile. I was told with the 4:56 it would be a dog out of the hole, just wondering if I should go up or down with the gear.
Thanks in advance.

What does it weigh? Footbrake or transbrake?

I'm running a 33" tire on my Nova with 4.56 gears and cross the stripe in the 1/4 at 7100-7200 thats with a 540 BBC.

The 1.76 gear might make it a little soft at the line but not too bad I wouldn't think.

transbrake, 2900 w/driver.

You should be able to get thru the qtr. with a 5.14, i'm running a 5.43 with 14X32's, but the car is heavier at 3250lbs, with a 377", but it only runs 125 mph. i have a 7200 chip and it doesn't hit it.

With that much engine, it shouldn't be a dog out of the hole with 4.56 gears and that tire size.

Remember that milder gears can control tire spin, which in turn could help it out of the hole with quicker 60 foot times... especially with that much converter leaving on the transbrake.
