rims size question

Hello folks
Does anyone know what backspacing I should use on my 70 chevelle rear rims. I have ran 8 in welds (4.5 in B/S) with 10.5 tires , but I am thinking about going to a 10 inch rim with the 10.5 tire.
Stock width rear end ,not tubbed,. I know I can figure it out once I get everthing in front of me car/ rims tires, but I thought maybe someone may have some previous experience.

How much room you have inside and out with the 8" rims ?
Are the 10's a zero offset ? ( 0 Offset being 5" back space)
Are the tires tucked down into the wheel well(car lower than stock) or is it jacked up thus exposing the whole tire ?

rims

I have not bought the 10 inch rims yet, so I can get any B/S or offset that they sell. I will set the car down and put the 8 inch rims/slick combo on and check everthing out and see which way I have direction and how much room I have . The tires/rim combo currently fit completely in the wheel well and I want to keep it that way.
Thanks DD

unless you are building a "donk" they are wheels not rims. lol

i beleive that a 5 inch to 5 1/2 bs will work they are basically the same wheel wells as 73-77 and i know thats what the guys on another forum run

Since I'm a Mopar guy, I've not much 'exposure' to Chebbys, is that a coil spring rear suspension ? If so you usually have almost no probs with contacting suspension parts(like leaf sprung Mopars) but the inner wheel well will restrict your choice unless you tub it.

Do some research on this forum

I bet you can find an answer there. Its gonna be tight and you might have to roll the fenderwell lips to keep them from rubbing the outside of the tire.

Harb is correct. I have 10" Welds on my 68 Chevelle right now & they do not fully clear the fender well lip when the car is lowered down... they will rub on the first 2" of the tires. If I bring it up (top of tire just under the lip) they clear w/ my Weld Drag lites.
