rod length calculator. how to determine what a rod length is
any calculators avalable to determine what a rod length is good for? say i had a rod 6.335 what crank will this work with on a standard bbc deck? is there a calculator on sight somewhere that can figure this out ?

You just devide the rod length by the stroke of the crank to get the ratio. For example: 6.535 rod and 4.250 stroke crank...6.535 / 4.250 = 1.53.

old schoolers worry about it....newer big cubic engine guys say dont worry about it,they say find a piston that works for the induction application and where the rod stroke ratio ends up so be it

i dont agree with Russ67 totally as ratio is important, its just not as important in normally asperate motors, russ67 statement is true but what a bad rod ratio does is load the side wall of your block and in a stock block that could be bad news but most strokers motors are aftermarket blocks with thick cylinder walls, even with thick walls a bad ratio will cause more wear on walls causing more frequent overhauls and the lower the ratio the more wear, i no a guy who runs schmitt racing engines and they say ratio is very important in blown race motors and they built his and his rod ratio is very good and they told him it was important.... jm2cents

i do agree to concentrate on it thats why i went with the 6.7 rod vs the 6.535 i could of went with,just saying some believe its not a huge deal but i do lean twards focusing on longest possible
