T400 VS Glide

What do you guys think of a Turbo 400 swap to a Glide, any ET gains to be had ? 9.7-8's door car 3400lbs with driver.

With the correct stall for the engine, usually a couple hundred over peak torque, you should pick up 1-3 tenths. Weight savings and lower HP loss through the glide more than make up the difference. The glide also seems to work the converter for a little more to add as well. An easy test is to footbrake the car with all 3 gears, then try it starting in second. If it runs no more than a tenth slower 1/4 mile the glide will be better. We ran TH350's years ago, by accident we found starting in second the car ran about 2 tenths faster. Switched to a glide and picked up more. This was in 11-12 second cars.

I ran a 400 for years behind a 588 bbc, 2800 car ran 9.6s , went to a glide and more stall, car picked up 2 tenths, just as hard out of the hole with more stall, but 2 tenths off the et slip,( also went from a 4.11 gear to the 4.56),, hope this helps some what.

Glide all the way. WAY More consistent, and i have done this swap in three cars and picked up in all 3.

ONE THING YOU NEED TO CONSIDER ALSO IS HOW MUCH POWER DO YOU WANT TO MAKE?IVE HEARD AT 800 PLUS HP YOU SHOULD REALLY BE LOOKING AT AN AFTERMARKET TRANS(CASE AND GUTS)WHICH WILL PROBABLY OVER TAKE THE PRICE ON TH400 WITH GOOD GUTS AND I AM OF THE OPINION THAT WITH MORE GEARS IN THE TRANNY WILL POTENTIALLY BE QUICKER UNDER MOST CERCUMSTANCES AND ESPECIALLY IF CAR IS OVER ABOUT 3200 LBS.

MY VOTE IF YOU DONT OVER TORQUE MULTIPY THE REAR TIRES- GOES TO THE TH400

WHAT if you don't really care about being consistant or bracket racing...I know the 3 speed will be more violent on the launch..will it E.T. better than the glide in a heavy big block car?
