selecting new heads

what i know about curant set up .598 eagle crank and rod je flat top dart 308 deamon 850 325 nos shoty glide 4200 stall 630 gear 32 '' paddle tires estamated under 3000#. I have no idea what cam is in it it revs 6800
i would like to keep the flat tops. Is it possible to hit 900 hp With a head cam intake and carb?

900 hp should be relatively easy with 600 cubic inches if the right person gets ahold of it or helps you choose the parts.

But flat top pistons in a BBC means no compression. With open chambered heads it takes a .340 high dome to even get above 10 to 1.

Most of the GOOD HEADS that are stock configuration are open chambered with around 118 cc chambers.I don't know what is available for heads that are good that have small chambers. With flat tops you will need really small chambers or a set of heads that are cut a bunch to get even decent compression.

I am speaking of a 454 your big bore/stroke motor would take less dome I'm sure to get the same compression.

iv seen some crate street engines claiming big hp numbers using big chief heads just wondering what a conventional 360 s or even what some 410 cc woud do to a 598 flat top
thanks

I made that post and realized at the end we were not talking about a 454 .Flat tops in one of those with 118 cc heads puts compression around 8 to 1. I don't know what it is with a 4.625 bore or whatever that thing has.

598

I just tore a 588 apart, made 825 on a mild cam, a flat top will give you over 10 - 1 if you get a cam with the right valve timing to keep the compression up. I might add I ran pump gas to make the 825 hp. (3.50 a gallon for gas ) lol. get some decent heads around a 335 - 345 , get the flow around 410/420 @ 700 with the smallest intake runner you can find, (I used an AFR) try a shaft rocker system, and give it some cam ,around .780 lift and run some duration around 270/280, get a 112 separation. and with the juice, you will make way over 1200 hp, or 900 on motor....just my experience..

4.6 bore 5 '' stroke. 121 cc head I thought it was 10.5 to one, I've seen a 598 flat top crate that claimed 10.88 to one, but the didn't say what head they were using.
i dont really have budget to basically start over so i want to do either top end or bottom end. so i guess a better question is , how would a large intake runner head perform on a 10 .5 to one
Second question would I be better off putting a good set of nos 14 to one pistons to race this season and head intake carb next.
lol just another racer that wants to go faster than he can afford
gotta spend what i have cause it tends to go some where else if you don't or may be buy the parts and set them a side.

4.600 bore, and a 4.5" stroke is what you probably have. a good set of heads and a decent cam, you'll get close to the 900hp, just make sure you look at the rest of your combo behind the crank. If your on a budget, and 900 is all you need, keep the flat tops, and run premium pump gas, you'll be saving big bucks on fuel too...

Call Curtis at RFD and get a set of his Edelbrock 24 degree Sportsmans heads. He can angle/flat mill them down quite a ways. I just put a set of them on my 532 and it made awesome power!!
