WHAT TYPE OF FUEL PUMP FOR DRAG RACING
I have a holley blue pump, 8an to regulator then 6 to carb.regulator is a aeromotive brand.Monday at the track when i launched the car fuel gauge went from 7/7.5 psi to 3 psi motor almost shut off and i just idled down the track..adjusted to 8.5 psi launched it gauge went to 6 psi hesitated a little but otherwise went down the track at 6 psi,could my pump be going bad,regulator bad or do i need a better pump.

Give us some engine specs, carb size and so on.
Are you sure it's a fuel delivery problem and not some other problem? Is this a new set-up? A holley blue pump should be fine for a mild to built motor but not for some heavy breathing twin turbo set up :wink: 8.5PSI is on the high side and its normal to see a pressure drop when both needles open up. I have a 385 motor,13 to1 same heads as you, cam is 683 lift, pro system 4150 carb, super victor, I have blue pump, 8an to pro system regulator,to 8an carb lines, I have fuel pressure set at 8 psi no problems for me so far

How old is the pump? I would probably take it apart and inspect things inside. Is this a new setup or a proven combination that just changed. Everyone knows that blues are not the most powerful pumps but they also have been used successfully for years.

I would pull the bottom plate off the pump and see if anything has lodged in there. It has been a long time since I had one apart but I believe there is a built in relief in those. Check filter if you have one, pull and inspect the regulator last.
If you are running the pump off of a long wire from a switch like a lot of people do, make sure none of the connections have corroded and causing a voltage drop. I have always put a relay by the pump and run a larger wire to the relay from the battery so the switch only carries the relay coil. It will can a huge difference in the speed of the pump.
