Vacuum pump
I just put a Moroso vacuum pump on my 598 BBC and was wondering if I could connect the pump intake to my existing breather caps. The valve covers are chrome and I am worried about damaging them if I drill new holes for the intake. Has anyone drilled chrome plate before and had success?
The pump intake line is #12 and the outlet on the breather caps is #8. |
There are breather made that already are designed for that purpose.
Is this what you need. The items below the breather clamps. http://www.jegs.com/i/CSR/170/680/10002/-1 |
I already have breathers on the valve covers. They were tied in to my headers for evacuation before. The outlet on the breather is #8 AN and I would like to tie the intake line from the vacuum pump into these fittings. Can I do it? If so, do I need to tie into one or both?

If it already has a #8 AN fitting, it is easy to plumb it to a pump. What fitting is on the pump. More than likely it is straight pipe. Any decent hardware store will have the fittings, except the AN. The AN can be picked up at a local speed shop or call Ron Owens and he can probably set you up.

x2 Drill it. You only need to be tapped into one valve cover. Plug the other one.

you will also need a relief valve on the valve cover if you are not using one on the suck fitting

This is what you need in your valve cover, but be sure the rockers are not close to hitting on the bottom. http://www.jegs.com/i/Moroso/710/22635/10002/-1 |
Thanks for the help guys! It's good to know that if I have to, I can drill the valve covers without damaging the chrome, David.
I would still like to know if I would get enough suction to the pump by routing the suction line to the two #8 AN fittings on the breather caps? Has anyone done it this way? I have a Moroso relief valve that screws into the pump. Here is a pic of how the breathers are set up now for header evacuation. http://i205.photobucket.com/albums/b...ragster026.jpg |
I have a buddy who just tapped the top of the breather and put a 12an fitting in the top of it and capped the side. If it were me, id just drill the valve cover out it'll look much better.
