Sure you can, it's a SBC aint it?

I recommend a good spin job on the crankshaft first though.

It will if you don't run out of head flow or valve spring. Mine has no problem going past 7,000.

Had a 383 with around a 620 lift cam solid roller with 6" rods all. Eagle assembly 11.5 with AFR 210s and would go 7400 on the big end never had a problem. Ran a single plane with a 830 HP carb it ran strong. As long as your cam is making power up there and assemblys are sound and the springs are up for that rpm. Why not.

You hear these stories cause they don't cam them right, and people use crappy heads.
Don't be surprised with pro comp heads this motor is done making power at 6200-6300 rpm..

Are you implying that running a 383 over 7000 means it is not cammed right? if yes why? Just a question..What do you consider crappy heads?AFR,pro Comp,Dart?

Component selection will determine RPM range. The 6500 RPM limit is just an old wives tale.

20 years ago I ran a 383 with 5.56 stock chevy rods and heavy TRW pistons. I wouldn't spin that one much over 6500.

Fast forward to today and I launch my 383 at 6400 and go through the traps at 8200.

The as-cast 210cc Pro Comps are not the greatest heads I've seen. They are kind of catch 22 head, for the price they are OK, but if you have to pay someone to do the port work required to make them really work you could have had a decent CNC'd head.

I run a set of 210 Pro Comps on my Moms 3100lb door car, 400ci that will run 10.40's in decent air. I put about 3 hours into each head making them respectable. My time is free for my Mom though.

5.7 rod 12.5-1 flat top 388 with Hyper pistons and cast crank Launch at 4600 shit at 6800 and cross the 1/4 at 8200 no problems. Dont let the old tales scare you. Look at your cam at peaks for your combo and let it run.
