Push button start

Looking at rewiring my drag car and right now im just turning the key to start the car but im wanting to hook up a switch and then have to push a push button to start it. Can anyone help me?

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G1433/ This is a simple single switch, but I'd go ahead and rewire everything and put it on a good switch panel like this http://www.summitracing.com/parts/MO...1/?image=large
The good thing about using a push button start is you can seperate the starter and ignition. This way you can have the starter spinning then turn on the ingnition. Makes starting a high compression motor a lot easier!
Several kinds you can use just make sure you have some extra switched because you'll always add a few things down the road.
Hope this helps!

Im needing to know what wires to use and maybe a diagram to look at?

It's just a 12 volt wire to the solenoid on the starter. You break that wire with the push button switch.

ok thanks but how do i hook up a toggle switch with out using the keys

What kind of distributor and ignition do you have? Is it an HEI or a MSD box or what? You just need to break the 12 volt wire to the ignition with a toggle switch.

Run one wire from a 12 volt source to the solenoid. Break that with a push button. Whatever type ignition you have will need a 12 volt wire to it from the battery or fuse box or whatever you want that has 12 volts...just break it with a toggle switch.

Wiring

If you are running an automatic, you have to wire the neutral safety switch into your starter wiring. Is this a race only car?

GOOD POINT.

Wiring

Here are a couple choices.
If it were my car, I would strip out all the wire and start from scratch.
If you are not sure of your abilities, find a friend that has done it before.
Take a look at the cars at the track. The simplest way is to buy a complete harness and follow the instructions. Take your time as you only want to do it once.
Decide if you want one or two batteries and where the cutoff switch will be.
Plan it out and you'll have fewer problems.
Try painless wiring or some of the other specialty shops.

American Auto Wire. They can be reached at (800) 482-WIRE.

Hope this helps.
