1.82 low gear reinforcement

Thanks in advance for your help on this one
Me and a good friend of mine are budget minded racers
(That’s the nice way to say poor) over the years of racing
Powerglides the 1.82, s are staking up in the corner and
1.76 getting harder to find 1.82 would be a preferred low
off the line for me anyway
Well before this post gets to long I will get to the point
Someone was telling my friend that you could bend and weld
a 3/16x3/8 flat steel band around the out side of the 1.82.s stamped steel
carrier to make it stronger and stop the deflection
Have any you done or seen or even heard of it being done?

Nope never heard of it..I ran 1.82's in my S10 for 2 or 3 years before they broke...and that is with 1.30-1.40's on the sixty foot running anywhere from 5.99-6.70's in the 1/8th..on and off Nitrous. The truck weight is 2760Lbs.

BTE, sells them, but it doesn't work. We have a couple sets sitting on the shelf broken. I think the weak link is the gears themselves. If you like the 1.82's and you have those available and your car is'nt too heavy i'd just run them stock until they break and hope it doen't break the case.
the person who builds my transmissions will not even put one together with 1.82's . some of the a/fuel funny cars are running them but they are using different cages and gears than stock.

PS, if you want when i go back up to Batesville MS in the next week or so, i'll take a picture and post it or send it to your PM, that way you can see the process

If it's a footbrake car just run it unless you make a TON of power. If you have a brake or more power then at least use an OEM 1.76. The reinforced 1.82 stuff is still weak and I never recommend them in any longterm setup! If you need more info contact me...
