towing question

I am thinking about buying an old Chevy dually. It's a BB 4 speed. How will it pull in comparison to an '05 Chevy 3500 auto with a 6.0 litre. The new Chev does not impress me the way it pulls.

If your going to do a lot of towing get a diesel.

Get the new chevy. I am on my 2nd one in 6 years and had a powerstroke inbetween. I can pull anything with my 6.0 I could with my diesel. The powerstroke got better mailage with nothing behind it than the gas chevy but for the 5000 dollar diff. I can buy alot of gas. I have pulled over 12000 lbs with the chevy and had no problems. the older ones with the 454 will only get about 10 mpg empty and 6-7 loaded.

I drive a 2000 model with the Triton 454, 4-speed auto. He's right on about the milage. 9.5mpg empty, 6.5mpg with an 8,000 lbs. load. This thing will pull a house off it's foundation though! If I had to do over again, I'd look for a diesel in a single wide axle.

I have had two mid 80's dually 454 2wd, and they sucked, my new duramax is kick ass!!!!! up the hills steep hills at 70 mph on cruize with the air blowing cold, diesel is were its at, I never want to pull with gas again

mid '90's diesel

How will a '95 Chev 6.5, 4 speed pull? Which will perform better, the 454 or the 6.5 ?

454 will tow the load better, but if this is going to be your everyday transportation also, I'd go with the smaller motor for driving unloaded more than loaded. Just my personal opinion though.

All I want from this vehicle is to tow well. My everyday ride is a F150 Supercrew. I want something to pull. That's the reason I am looking at al 4 speeds. I have a '98 Chev with that 6.5 diesel in it. That truck is pretty spunky. You think the 454 will out pull it?
