It doesn't always work. Case in point, a friend has a Mustang, totally certified, Big Blk ford. Christie Wright was standing outside the fence by the burnout box at Twin Cities La. Rodney Jorden had everything certified including a lined bell housing PG on the B/blk Ford. During the burnout the flywheel came apart, went thru the fence and severly injured Christie, it cut the chassis in half and put Christie in the Hospital where she lost 1 finger and a thumb, it also went very deep into her leg, luckly EMT was able to get her to a Hosp. in time to stop the bleeding and she is now O'K. Certifaction is good but it doesn't always make accidents un avoidable. I'm friends with both, and Christie is O'K and back at the track. Bottom line, there is nothing , certified or not that is totally safe. You can read Christis story at Twin Cities drag track, forums

Makes me re think the decision to NOT run one ...My car has no trans shield or flexplate shield of any kind.It is just the stock powerglide case. I can't get a "regular" shield on it with the stock firewall/floorpan. The only one that might fit is the carbon fiber one that looks like a trans case.....didn't want to spend the money on one of them but after watching that I'm not so sure I want to run without it. I do have a SFI Flexplate but that's it.

Tod74, If you do not feel that heat is an issue for you, company's do make tranny blankets out of kevlar or similar that will give you protection from explosions in the trans area. The down side is that if you have a leak it will get unnoticed until it drips and does trap a lot of heat in your trans case and oil, but some programs in bracket racing that run 1/8th mile like I think you have been doing? will be less affected by the heat issues some cars can have even without a blanket. I personally, used to put a large blanket in the car over the trans just in case....... .040 aluminum is like holding a piece of newspaper over a bomb if you know what I mean and I think you do.
Something is better than nothing.

I was keeping up with this ... nuts what it can do to a dedenbear case also !

I just wanted to add to my post above about the incident at Twin Cities, it was tube chassis mustang, certified to 7.50, big blk ford, dedenbear case PG with a steel lined bell housing and block saver plate, TCI flex plate i think. This is also the 2nd time this car has lost a flexplate, actually it was the starter ring gear that came apart.

Must of scared him so bad he couldnt hold the camera upright anymore!

If it was his motor he was probably bending over throwing up.
