How fast?

The reason I ask this question is because I have the interior out and if this combo is gonna put me faster than 11.49 I'm gonna need a cage. No better time than now.

Gungho I never said it was good, bad, or otherwise.
All whitey was lookin' for was some input on how his car might or might not perform. Not wether his parts are the best.

HI long time no chat. You really wanna call me out on here?? Go for it! You arent gonna see me defending these overseas castings like you! I bought bare castings and am having americans assemble them! I guess I just cant afford the $3500 for american heads. I did a side by side comparison of patriot and pro-comp and wow huge difference!

O.k,If you can be an adult about this,we can do a real side by side comparison per the 1/4 mile,I have the time, truck, trailer, would anybody here want to see this?again I am serious about this, just a good old fashioned drag race with a handshake at the end,oh and by the way,I also bought the castings and had a builder install all hi grade valvetrain ,thats how I have a mechanical roller at over .700 lift..

Tod74 12-29-2009 05:16 PM

Just in case someone doesn't understand what started this....all in good fun I say. :D

IMO< yes.

Putting a cage in is always a good idea anyway.

Go ahead and do it, if your anything like most of us racingjunkies and I think you are, your gonna be making it faster down the line so why prolong the ineviatble?

That is not a fair statement,I did indeed defend the performance of the item that I bought and paid for,you told me to"BUY AMERICAN",than you turn around and do the same thing???it looks like you were jumping on the bashing bandwagon before you thought about yourself, now you go out and buy imported junk and it's o.k. now? Hello pot ,this is kettle, come in....Again how fair is that?If speaking up for what I know, and have track tested, where is the crime?I do dislike when the internet bashing occurs on anything that has"I heard" or "my Machinist" or "A guy I know" is in the statement.I didn't mean to offend anyone here, but thought it to be funny that it was bad for me but o.k. for you to buy,is that how you really feel?P.S. you will indeed break that muncie and that 12 bolt with a big block riding on slicks with a good track prep.JMO.

I guess I'm eatin crow pie for this! But I guess If you want to go fast and your income is a 1/3 of what it was 6 months ago you do what you got to. I'm not proud to say I have these heads, heck I even asked the machinist if we could mill the patriot off the front of the heads! I will say for the money they dont look bad, but looks and performance are another thing!

Well that is my point, why would you put down another mans belongings if you do not even know them?maybe I also have less money coming in now,I guess I just get offended when someone puts down another mans things, sorry but its my pet peeve.I was brought up to never say anything derogatory to someone..and if you read into all of my posts on this, all I did was defend a product that I,me have personally track tested, and trust me,I have a good chunk of change into my heads, the reason I did it,was for that exact reason to have "brand X" for everyone to see ,and think less of the performance so I could have more fun with it,no harm no foul..

itsabird 12-30-2009 03:17 PM

dang sure sound good.

whitey70ss 12-30-2009 04:29 PM

So since we got that out of the way :o any one got a number on my combo??

gungho 12-30-2009 04:33 PM

High eleven.

gungho 12-30-2009 05:34 PM

Yes I concur, but I was saying at best, with good weather and all dialed, but more like a mid twelve to start with.that would be just my guess,of course there are a lot of variables,I would go with the biggest cam the heads will allow if I were running a four speed.

Pwmax 01-01-2010 02:45 PM

It could run low 11's, maybe even 10's. Obviously a lot of factors will contribute to that though. 3890lb 69 Chevelle, 496, 9.7:1, mildly ported 781's, 240ish, .580 lift solid cam, Perf. RPM air gap, Quick fuel 850, 10 inch converter, 3.55 gears, drag radials theu 3 inch ex, all the way out the back, runs 11.20's at 122.

whitey70ss 01-02-2010 12:25 PM

Thanks Frank that gives me some hope! I'll be happy for a while with mid 11's .

Figured I would give you guys a update. First run off the trailer , left at a idle and ran a 11.96 at 119. Track got shut down. Went back the next weekend , the weather was in the mid 90's very high humidity. First run was 11.66 at 119mph. I just switched from 26 in slick to 28's and havent got to run the car yet. Thanks for all the help throughout my build.

Scooterz 08-02-2010 03:31 PM

Good to see there is harmony in the RJ crib again. I don't know anything about those heads, so I kept my mouth shut. Besides, I have "Corvette" heads... don't need anything else.

Pwmax 08-03-2010 04:28 AM

Sounds like in good fall air on a good track, it will go low 11's easily. Mid 90's and super humid, obviously is no good for good et's. 119mph, will turn into 122-123, maybe a bit faster with tuning. With that mph, you could hit a high 10 even, if you got the car to launch good.

For the record, we have built 2 496's this year, with those heads. Both sets were ported, one set a bit more than the other, but not what I would call radical porting. One was a hyd roller deal, made 700hp and 630tq on pump gas. The other was a solid roller deal, on pump gas, made 740hp and 650tq. Neither engine was set on kill.

ballsout1 08-07-2010 04:17 PM

i had a 72 chevelle 468 all steel with flat top pistons closed chamber heads, similer cam, 4.88`s pump gaS motor.... ran 11,2`s all day....7.3`s eigth mile.

whitey70ss 08-08-2010 06:02 AM

Yep I'm happy with it . Very nice to drive on the street (good manners). I think it has a lot more in it with some good air. Thanks alot guys.

cepx111 08-09-2010 09:37 PM

Going from a 26 tall tire to a 28 incher its gonna kill some ET so expect that.

You can compensate for that and pick some ET by Footbraking/stalling the car up as high as you can without pushing thru the lights.
