Need help with my 66 Chevy Nova!

I have a 66 Chevy2. The problem I'm having is getting it to hook off the line. It has mono leaf spring with caltracs and adjustalbe shocks on the rear. I have changed the front springs to moroso trick springs and comp eng. 90/10 race shocks. I can't get a good consistent launch, as soon as the front end starts up, it drops back down and the back tires will slip. I'm running hosier 26x10 slicks. Right now I'm running 6.50s and 60' 1.42 to 1.45 has went 1.38 once with the motor detuned and only launching at 3000 rpm on the 2step. Anyone have any suggestions?

X2

If you can get a bigger tires underneath then go for it. I would ty a 29x10 first and see how it goes.

Don't know if a 10.5 will fit with the stock springs in place or not. But i had 10.5X28.5 Mickys on my 66 Nova, but had ladder bars, no tubs. it ran a best of 10.31 @ 129.85 with a 406" 6 cylinder front springs and 90/10 shocks on front. I don't remember the 60' times, that was 20 yrs. ago, but the car was very consistent. Turbo 400, 4.86 gears, and a 5500 stall converter, leaving at 4800 on the brake. Same setup with a 377" ran 10.50's @ 126mph.

Zip.

I think you could use a taller tire, but it will effect your gera ratio alot. You said you had CE shocks in the front. If you have CE in the rear they don't work good with cal tracs. They do not have enough dampening. Your car may be separating too fast in the rear, and then unloading the tire. If that is the case bigger tires wont help, as much as new shocks. Good luck
