SBC Big Tube Headers????
Putting together a 406 SBC with AFR 227 Eliminator heads that will make about 650hp base, and then I am using Speedtech plate to shoot 250-350 shot. The car is a 72 Monte Carlo with stock loacation front suspension and is a Drag Radial car. I would like to know where the best place to get big tube headers made is, or does anyone know of any production 2" primary tube headers? What size does everyone think I should use......I currently only have 1 3/4 priamry tubes.
I would appreciate any help!! Thanks, Steve :?: |
you can buy 1 7/8" headers from hooker, i wouldn't go any smaller with a 406". I run 1 7/8" on my Malibu and have had a 406" and present 377" i'm going to 2"X2 1/8" step headers for the 434" going in it soon. there was a set of 2" coated on ebay recently that would have fit your car, i thought about bidding on them. They went off 2 days ago and noone bid on them, the starting bid was $10.00 with no reserve, but i didn't need them.

1 7/8" is plenty big for a 406....

Hedman told me 1 7/8" is too big for my 422ci let alone the 2" I wanted. So I ended up ordering the 1 7/8" anyway after talking to some reliable sources.

HP, RPM range, Vehicle weight and intended use are much more important in header selection than CID alone. |
So it seems that everyone thinks I should just buy the 1 7/8 production ones and not worry about getting a custom set of 2" made? I was just concerned about flow with the big heads and nitrous.

i had a set of step headers on my 406 and they worked out well...1 7/8 to 1 3/4 and you want a long collector also..Good Luck

I ran a big roller cammed 13.5:1 406 with $300 set of 1-3/4 Hooker Super Comps with a 3" flowmaster exhaust w/crossover (no tailpipes). I used to shift at 7000-7200 and the 3500lb car ran 10.4 @ 128 and 9.5 on a 200 shot. I wasted $1200 on a set of Lemons 2" big tube headers and the car didn't pick up squat...Not worth the $$$ IMHO.
