Racingjunk Forums - using hard block

i have put hard blok in about 100 blocks, here are some tips. you get one try at it make a good one. mount the block up solid, engine stand,deck mount boring bar stands ect. the deck needs to be level. water jackets must be clean. thermo clean & shot blast is best. hot tank &spray washer ok. hard blok does not seal cracks. use sealer on all plugs. do you need drain plugs? drill and tap as nessary. do not get hard blok in threaded holes. watch out for bolt holes that go in to water jacket. use longer than normal bolts with silicone on them. cover lifter valley with cardboard&duct tape. with all plugs installed fill block to desired level with water, then drain in to plastic 5 gal pail, this gives you an idea of how much to mix up. mark bucket. mix more than you need, its better to have some left over. use cold water. mix it up add water keep mixing and adding water until the water just starts to stand on top. if it does not pour easy you need nore water. pour it in. i like to use tall plastic auto transmission funnels. funnels plug up, have a long rod ready. have your air chisel ready use a junk blunt bit, find some steel plates to bolt on the front and rear of the block to rattle on, this helps the hard blok flow. if you can, keep hard blok off the cylinders above the fill line. left over hard blok works great for fixing cracks in cement floors. last thing. hone block with deck plates leave .005 to hone on short fill. hope this helps stickboy331
