Carburetor Choice

Hey I am looking for a bit of help choosing a carburetor for my Chevelle. It has a 454 that was just rebuilt with forged piston 10.75:1 comp, steel crank and Weiand single plane intake. The heads are GM iron rectangle-port heads with roller rockers. The cam is 231/231 degrees @ 0.050, 0.544/0.544 lift, 111 degree l.s. Right now it has an old Holley 750 on it. It feels like it is starving for fuel but gets better (but not great) as the car warms up. I was thinking about getting a new one but I was wondering if I should stick with a 750 or bump up to an 850? I have found a Holley 850 street hp but I don't want it to be too much for my motor. Any help would be great. Thanks.

holley has a real nice black billet series made for speed, and have
you thought of EFI? quick response, there is a carb that is EFI, so
you don't have to plumb your intake, just some ideas, good luck bud

Holley 950HP and call it the day. Room to grow.

I would use a 950

thanks for the comments. another question that i had was do i need a choke?

X2... I have a similar set up w/ lower gears, 3500 stall, BBC stroked to 427 & I use the 950 Quick fuel. It has no choke... I do not recommend one unless you plan on doing a lot of winter driving. I had the 850DP & it was not quite enough.

What pump are you using/going to use?

right now its a stock mechcanical pump.

I'd change the cam first. It's costing you a lot more than the carb is.

I'll probably get flamed for this but...

The 950 HP works great on a 454 but You don't need one with that set up. Smaller carb that is good would feel faster on the butt dyno because those heads are hurting your low end torque and the camshaft is DONE way before the heads .

I guarantee you that you would be happier if you change the heads to oval ports. You don't have near enough motor to need the square ports.
