95 plymouth sohc neon
i recently bought a 95 plymouth sohc neon to turn into a race car and the guy before me replaced every gasket on the motor and put a bigger intake on it. when i bought it it wouldnt rev up past 3,000rpm so i put all the stock parts on it and it seems to run better but nothing like it should always got to be on the gas to keep it running. so i did a compression test on it and cylinder 1 had 150 #2 didnt make the gauge go up high enough to read anything. #3 did the same as #2 and #4 had 150. i cant seem to find the problem. does it need to be retimed? timing belt? or is the motor junk? PLEASE help me figure out what is wrong[/b]

Have you done a cylinder leakdown check? Sounds like ahead gasket between Number 2 & 3 cylinders.

Too tight valve lash ?

I read this on another forum. no the sohc does not have adjustable lash, the only thing you can do is buy a new set of rockers to help quiet valve noise down. The lifters/lash caps are built into the rockers on the sohc Zip. |
Well, it's one of them thar furin cars anyway. Only REAL engines come with 8 or more cylinders ! :P
:P :P |
i just put a new head gasket in it

Do the valves open and close on the center cylinders? The cam may have wiped a couple lobes. A cylinder leakdown test would be the easiest way to troubleshoot it. JMO
