Dart Pro-1 230 SBC Heads

I'm currently running out-of-the-box, cast runner Pro-1 230 heads on my 427 SBC stroker race engine (solid-roller .700 lift, 14.5-1 compression, 2-2 1/4" step-tube Stahl headers, 1000 CFM 4150 Demon carb and Hurricane intake that I port-matched).

Using one of the on-line drag race calculators (i.e., car weight, ET and MPH), the engine is making 700+ HP at the crank. Basically, the engine is running really great and making a lot of HP (9.0s @ 150 MPH in my tube chassis car).

I've been thinking about having the Pro-1s professionally ported during the off-season to gain a few more HP. Also, adding one of the Super-Victor #2825 CNC'ed intakes, along with some additional port-matching.

Some of my race firends say, "they wouldn't change anything on the engine, because it is running so good as-is!" But, I would like to have the car running down in the 8.80 to 8.90 range and "I believe" the porting would help me move closer to those times.

So, what are your thoughts on having the Pro-1s ported and how much do you think the porting along with a CNC Victor would drop my ETs?

Just curious...what does your car weigh?

2340 with me strapped-in. Front-end weight is 1135 and rear-end is 1205 with a 107" wheel-base. Also, it is a Glasstek 2002 Cavalier body with 2 x 3 mild-steel chassis.

Warren, I would fully port the intake and see what this does first. Wilson offers this option. CNC Ported heads will also help. We send all our dart heads to Ron's porting as recommended by dart for CNC porting.

Hope this helps.

That sounds like a good plan, the intake first then the heads. I also like the idea of the CNC work, over hand porting if I can afford it.

I believe any time you properly cnc port a set of heads there will be an increase of power over a set of "out of the box" heads. JMO

I checked-out Ron's CNC Porting Service website and it looks like he does some really top-notch CNC head work! Also, he is set-up to do 23 degree Dart Pro-1 heads!
