a good place to check, is any electrical companys, or contractor, in your area, sometimes they have drop off,s, stuff too short for their useage, you may get it for little or nothing provided it what you need.

David,
You can buy the wire that Painless sells in 25' or 50' rolls. It is head and shoulders about the machine wire sold at Depot and most electrical supplies. I have my car wired with it and it is much more flexible so it would be less likely to break the wires from vibration and the covering has a higher temperature rating. They offer 20 different colors in 14 gauge. I know you like using quality components on you cars so I thought I would suggest this. Curtis |
I would agree with Doorracer. Painless sell quality wire, also I wired a car for a friend of mine, Doug Bracey in California sold him some wire that was embossed with Water Pump, Fan, Fuel etc it was pretty good stuff.
I use 14 awg TEW wire. it is rated at 220 F. multistrand and flexible. The insulation is heavier and it is rated to 600VAC. This is a type of wire that is used in electrical control cabinets for industry. The down fall is that it only comes on rolls 250 feet plus. It does come in a wide variety of colors. I also have had heat shrink tags made up that I put on the wire in various spots to help identify the circuit. For wire rating Voltage Temperature rating Multi strand..TEW 14 awg would be 41 strands |
Cheap wire = higher resistance = lower available voltage to component = shorter lifespan of said component.

I have been buying my wire from Jegs in their brand. Its 14 guage and flexible. It works real good, I have wired 4 cars with it and no issues. Its not that cheap, but you get what you pay for, lol...

Mike went there today 25ft 14ga 10 colors its GPT wire which is what waytek and delcity offer as primary wire for auto. RATED BETWEEN -40F AND 176F OR -40C AND 80C 6.95 each so not terrible I went to home depot today, they dont offer any auto wire and I wont use the other stuff. I checked out the painless stuff and the stuff jegs sells, its a bit pricey compared to other stuff I have looked at. Of course like mentioned ya get what ya pay for.. I may just bite the bullet and buy 100ft or 250ft spools this go around. Wiring race cars has became almost a hobby in itself for me just cant find good wire at a good price. |
