converter

have a 950 hp chevy in a 2000 lb dragster, how makes the best converter for dragster, my car now has 33 inch tires 410 gear and at 143 mph rpm is 7150 it seems to high,

That number is way too high. If you allow 300rpm's for slippage, which would be about 6800 rpm's, you would still be running about 163 mph. For the 143, you should only be turning about 6200 rpm's with about 300 of slippage.
If the transmission isn't slipping in high gear (burnt fluid or clutch material) then it has to be losing it in the converter.

My buddy uses a BTE converter in his dragster.

Man you got big problems, if the trans is not toasted [ high gear clutches] then the converter is definately junk.

O'K first who to talk to, if you want to use BTE, talk to Paul, you need about a 5200 stall converter with that much HP, if you want to use PTC, talk to Kenny Ford both have good converters. we use both and we are good friends with both BTE and PTC.
O"K where am i comming from, in a 2,000 dragster that we have, using my little 377" motor at Memphis it ran 5.16 1/8 times [ don't remember the MPH] it ran 8.24 @ 158 with 4.56 gears crossing at 7300 RPM with 17X34's. now this motor may produce 700HP maybe not. same dragster, with 434" motor and 4.29 gears runs best of 7.85 @ 164MPH at Memphis, same converter. With 950 HP you should run mid to low 7's @ close to 170MPH.
I have never had a 950 hP motor except my blown alcohol motors, and now i only run s/ blks. my blown s/blk has been 4.62 in 1/8= 7.19qtr, but it's not running at this time.
Hope this helps,

zip.
