Nasty BBC camshaft Help?
 

I'm building a 461 BBC with some street use in mind, but I want the car to rock... It's very nice having that nasty lope cam, pulling in DQ. Was looking at the Mother Thumper, or the Bracket Master II. Any help??? Pump gas/10.5-1/MSD/750cfm or better

I would fill out one of those online cam recomendation forms and send it in to comp or just call them.

for street .600 lift is recomended (bbc) anything over starts to
get radical, im using .636 solid roller for very little street use. so i
can pull in to a wendy's for a frosty :lol: :wink:

Mine has a .737/.726 Solid roller. It sees limited any kind of use....cause I'm poor.

P.S. Remember the old "Buster Bars" they had years ago....mmmm mmmm good. I'm going to DQ

I had a 468 that was 10:1, 990 heads, Victor Jr. intake, 850 Holley, and the cam was a Ultrandyne .625/.625 solid lifter cam. I sold the engine and they guy I sold it to put it in a 66 Chevelle and was running 11.8s with it...so he told me. I never seen the slips.

Big roller cams rule, but it sounds like your leaning towards the flat tappet route.

I had a simlar set up as you in my 74 Nova 468 BBC - I ran a CC hydralic flat tappet 305 Magnum, it had a nasty idle, great throttle response and pulled like the dickens well past my comfort zone.

I mostly drag raced this car but it did see the ocassional trip to the parts house or to a Sonic drive-thru.

It was well mannered and I wouldn't be afraid to run it in a street car.

On a side note:
I tried a bracket master II camshaft just for $hits and giggles, slowed my car, 3 weekends later I had rolled 3 lobes which might have been my problem to begin with, dunno? I do know my wallet was a tad lighter.

I stuck the 305 magnum back in and it was till in the motor 3 years later when I sold the car.

I RUN MY .714 SOLID ROLLER ON THE STREET ALL THE TIME WITH A 496, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM, OUR CAR CRUISES GO 40 MILES+... ON PUMP GAS.... BUILD WHAT WILL SATISFY YOU, GOOD LUCK ON THE BUILD....

If you want something that thumps hard, but runs like crap, put an Isky Mega 304 in it.

Just don't try and race anyone.

If you want a cam that sounds good and will perform well, use the Isky split duratino 270/280 Mega Cam. I ran one of those with my old N/A 462, and it ran pretty good. 13.0x in a 3700 lb pickup truck (plus my 250 lbs in it), Powerglide, 9.5:1, oval ports, 4.10 gear, Hoosier Quicktime 325/50/15, Q-jet, stock leaf springs (no traction aids).
