which MSD distributor?
 

shopping for a distributor, which MSD dist. is most common for sportsman classes?

is it MSD-85551 with mechanical advance only? (BBC 427)

Thats an all around good dist for chevy as you can lock it out if you want. The 85551 also comes with all the springs and bushings to set the advance curve were you need it for you app.

Only better one is 85561, same as above but has slip collar to fine tune height to line up right hand oil galley in block with groove on distributor. Minimizes oil leakage around distributor and maximixes oil to right hand lifters, rockers.
