hey guy anyone run a scat 9000? what do you think about it?
looking to build a 406 sbc 11:1 aluminum heads big cam looking to make 550hp on the 9000 crank not going to be strictly a drag car it will be ran down the 1/4 a few times and ran at a few stop lights but mostly a mildly street driven car you guys think the 9000 will be a reliable choice it will see 6500-7000 rpms with the 4.88 gears i have

You will be fine. We use the Scat 9000 Crank in our 550 Horsepower 383 Crate engine, and it comes with a warranty, so we believe in them. Just use a good rod (2-ICR6000-7/16) and a light piston and will will have no problems.

I ran one for three years in my 383 drag motor. I would say keep it under 7000 and use as light of a piston as you can. I was using a 5.7 rod so my pistons were a little heavy. Went to 7000 a few times and never had a problem. Car didn't shift a few times last year and my limiter caught it at 7400 and I had 4 pistons tagging a head. I always saw evidence of the crank moving around more than I liked but nothing that caused a problem other than I didn't care for how the bearings looked. Good crank for the money though. I went 9.509 @135 with that motor. 550 would be the max for it though. IMO I've gone to 4340 so I could lean on it a little and not worry.

Get the version that requires 6 inch rods, and will internal balance. It costs the same. that will greatly help it live also. Those cranks are tough though. Have ran them in a few 600hp 406's, and never had one break. I have seen a few of the Eagle cast cranks break however.
