oil pump problem
 

i have a problem with my oil pump getting loose,i've been told it's because of the 3 step limiter when i do a burn-out.anyone had this happen? how much should the oil pump bolt be torqued? ?

Never had one come loose. I use a 2 step on the launch with no issue's like that. I had broke a few but that's another story. I torque mine to 50 Ft.Lbs. You might want to make sure you have the right bolt for the pump also there are some that are differant..

SBC should be 65...

thank's guy's ,i got the pan off and the pump had broke.you think i should check the main & rod bearings .the last time i looked at the oil pressure is when i staged the car.when i crossed the finish line i saw it was on 0

i forgot to say a friend of mine has broke 3 of these oil pumps,i just learned today we bought them at the same store.i don't know the name of the pump it has USA on the bottom of the pump,these pumps are no good

what pump is it ??

the pump has m-55 and usa on the bottom,melling i guess.i should have spent more and got a better one.probably cost me a motor.... lesson learned.

happens to all of us ... oil pumps are one of the best places to spend good money.

Do not use a Melling M55 on ANY race engine, and not wise on anything. They are not made like they used to be. Instructions in the box tell you not to use them with solid mounts. And as a second note, Melling no longer uses billet gears in ANY of there pumps, as well as what they sell to other companies. This includes their select and aluminum pumps. Only 3 companies to my knowledge use billet gears, CVR, Titan, and Moroso's gerotor pump but NOT their others. CVR is the least expensive and is well made. Here is some more reading on the subject.

Found out melling had redesigned m55 per gm to save weight. Don't know why. Melling's m55hv has not been redesigned and it works great. Dirt track customers have had the same breakage problem.
