Further details are now available regarding this issue. Below is a modified version of what we just posted over on our openroadracing.com web board.

Impact Racing has dropped its appeal of the SFI decertification of its driving suits, gloves/shoes/racing apparel, harnesses, and other equipment made before 2009. All such pre-2009 Impact Racing equipment is now SFI decertified, effective immediately. They aren't waiting until April 27th. Items made in 2009 and 2010 are still certified.

SFI has made a point of stating that this is NOT just due to money issues and fake labels. Impact has (again) been found to have used non-Nomex thread and insufficient material on suits that it sold in 2008 and earlier. There is a real safety issue here, especially in regard to the 3.2A/5 suits.

SFI also makes the point that this is not new behavior on the part of Impact.

Please read all the press releases on the SFI website, http://www.sfifoundation.com for more detail.

MKM's position is unchanged from the previously posted bulletin on our Web site. For divisions (except LSA) that require an SFI-certified suit, suits made by Impact prior to 2009 will not be accepted. At the Mojave Mile, this would be for anyone required to meet Level 2 or higher, which is everyone except Grand Touring. This applies to the suit ONLY; we do not now require the other equipment to be SFI certified (except in LSA, see below). You should, however, read the above mentioned press releases and decide for yourself whether you want to use their stuff. Also note that as of June 22, 2010, Impact Racing is apparently being dropped from the SFI certification program altogether.

For the LSA division, entrants must meet SCTA rules, which are more stringent about SFI certification. For LSA only, we will not be accepting any Impact Racing personal safety equipment made prior to 2009, except helmets. See the SCTA rule book and web site for further details.

So, if this affects you, now would be the time to start shopping for new stuff. We're sorry if this creates any financial hardship for anyone, but as always, your safety is our primary concern.
