:( It is just a car but I had owned it since 1996...I needed the money desperately.....paying my mortgage trumps drag racing. after 6 months of low ball offers,many of which were insulting...I finally let it go. Everyone knows that you NEVER get out what you put into these things...but still hard to swallow giving something away almost. As bad as I needed the cash it was still sad watching them load her up....I have been gone from here for quite awhile, but while I was here I learned a great deal from the best group of guys on the internet. Thank You all.

Todd I know how you feel. I had to sell the Stang cuz bills were more important. I had $5,000 in it and sold it for $2,400. It hasnt been the same since it left and it has been over a month already

Ain't no shame guys. Everybody has been there at one time. I do understand being a gear head how us gearheads need these cars in our life to keep us happy inside and out. I know all too well.

I have respect for guys like you who stand up for their responsibilities in life and take it on the chin like a man should. I have known of many guys who let their home life suffer, getting utilities and such turned off just to race, fish, whatever the hobby. I'm sorry that you guys had to do it, but take solace in the respect you have earned from your friends and family. God bless and I hope things turn around for you both.

Sorry to hear both Tod and Dirk but you each have your heads in the right place. Like Curtis said, I too know many a guys whos family life suffered because of their hobbies and their inabilities to see what was really important in life.

Losing money on a non esential project shows you have your head in the right place. God, family, friends, community and then the fun stuff.

been there and done that. and I have the utmost respect for you tod and dirka.as most fo you know im a biker first ,then ya can call me a hotroddera d drag racer but bikes have always been my love.(customs, hate stock Harleys) anyway being a biker gets you into a worls a normal citizen just doestnt understand. ive watched some brothers. lose their jobs, houses, wife and kids even their tools but very rarely did they sell that bike. I understand that the bike is who we are but to me and a few others its responcibilties first..sorry this had to happen ,but believe me you did what a man should do. hurts like hell but life aint easy, if it was we all would getout of it alive! lol

I feel your pain Tod. Sold a Chevelle (69) project (327/4speed) once to pay for tuition... what a waste... just partied that semester anyways. On the other hand, you were ROCK SOLID for doing what you did. You manned up BIGTIME. It takes some real character to do that. You only sold the CAR; you did not sell your RACING. Scoot

Any kind of hobby is a luxury and sometimes it simply has to go. Sometimes permanent and sometimes just to get things straightened out. I would never think twice about selling all my racing stuff if it came down to it. Other things have always been more important to me than toys.
My problem is racing is a drug for me. At some point I will sell it all just to get away from it. It's either 100% or nothing for me. I know some guys that can come to the races a few times a year and are perfectly content running the same times year after year. I can't do that. I have to be constantly working on fixing / trying to go faster or I'll loose interest.

X3. Cars (Fast and Different) cars are my VICE. Its my weak point if you will.

I have seen the Roundy Round and Drag Racers keep on with their hobby and mortgages were not paid etc...I saw more of this from the roundy round more than drag racer. Not saying some dragracers do not do it.

Ok a question. I am an honest person. I told the guy that bought my car that it went straight.....it did. I bought it as a roller in 1996 and the guy told me "don't F with it it works" so I didnt....ever. The thing always always went straight. Now the guy that bought it is complaining. He says the car pulls hard right. I cannot believe that as I have driven it. It had been sitting a few years before I sold it so maybe a brake dragging? Idk.... When he picked it up, before he ever loaded it, him and his buddy were looking at the rear coil overs talking about how to lower it down....I said " it works" he said that won't change it much lowering it. Now he is saying he did nothing to it and it pulled hard right. I already used the $$ on bills. .I would bet $$ the right front brake is hanging up. I put wilwood disc brakes on it before I ran it the last time, and I did have issues with them not releasing. I finally got them to work but I only ran it once after that and the car has been sitting.I don't know the right thing to do here. That car always worked

I have hardly ever seen someone buy any racing vehicle and not make some changes right away. Usually they make a few passes first though. If it's been sitting that long it could be a number of things.
Shocks, springs, brakes as you already said, tires, etc. You said it's going right, Is the driver a lot heavier than you?

IMO I'd check the tires and shocks / springs before I changed anything.

Sorry you had to sell your Vega. Had to get rid the toys too. Bills to pay etc. On your Vega, is the guy experienced? Has he checked the rear tire pressures? Sometimes it is the simplest things. :roll:

He is experienced and also has a top sportsman car...outlaw pro mod type deal. He is a little smaller than me. Car is a ladder bar coil over car. I am not wanting to get involved...I feel it's a used race car bought as is....the engine cost more than he paid for the whole car....However as I said I am not a crook, and I think he thinks I lied to him. That bothers me.

I understand you want him to be happy & feel you were honest; but maybe the buyer is not being honest with himself? A brake dragging some after sitting for 2 years is not unrealistic.

Honestly if I were the buyer, I would not call & question someones character (over a drag car that has been sitting 2 yrs) even if I had to replace the calipers/go through the brakes.

I think you are good guy. That was a "As is" deal.

If he is close enough to you, meet him at the track and you make a pass in it, could be he does not know how to drive a short wheelbase car, either way would be nice to offer your help.Bottom line is only you and the buyer know what was said in the deal process, if what you claim is true, not to worry its over, if not make it right.

The sale doesn't hinge on that kind of stuff NORMALLY. whats ill handling for you maybe good for me. It could be a number of things such the way he is driving car, tire pressure the track he is running on. Don't bet the farm his is an experienced Outlaw driver either. Trust me these guys are use to driving ILL handling passes. My 1st half dozen passes in the oulaw car I swore it was pulling left..only to learn I was driving left due to it pulling my Nutz off at launch.

My advise tell them to move on...doesn't run straight my a$$..Sounds like buyers remorse.

I sold a car a few years..the guy got it home and had his dad call me back and said the car did't have proper wall thickness on cage tubing..they gave me like a 1.08 thickness they said their tech guy checked. ( No such Tubing thickness ) Just so happen that I still had the paid invoice where I purchased from Chassis Engineering..1.30 main tube 1.20 on the smaller tube that finished out the double frame. I called his son on HIS job and told him the invoice was on its way and to NOT BOTHER me with anymore of their BULLCHIT.

His dad contacted me a few days later and squared with me the son was going thru divorce etc....basicallt buyers remorse.

Tell them to GET LOST Tod. to many what ifs on this claim.

I found this picture on the local drag strips page..thought I would share it. The guy is a very nice guy and I have nothing bad to say about him.... Car needed body work but it worked good. Hope I can build another some day.

Tod, I wouldn't be surprised that the slicks are junk if it's been sitting awhile.
