What was your most embarrasing racing moment ?
I've got 3;
- Popped an oil line at the launch and laid a nice thin line all the way through the lights, this at Bandimere in a VeeWee. - Forgot to pin the hood on my circle burner and it went up and wrapped over the windshield at the green flag. - Missed 1-2 shift down at the Mojave Mile in 2010 on my 3rd run.         |
Bracket race. While I was waiting for my light I looked away for a split second. When I looked back at the light I was so fixed on the bottom yellow I didn't see the green light was already on. Of course when I finnaly did it was WAY late. (It was in the semi final round).
That's not even the worst part. Me and at least 10 other people went to the tower to tell them the light didn't work right. One of those people was filming it and agreed the light didn't work right. I was in the tower and explaining that the dam lights didn't work. It went from 1 yellow, nothing, nothing, GREEN and I have it on video. So we watch the video.    Funny part is NOBODY saw the light and some people still talk about me getting screwed by the lights that night. I just don't have the heart to tell them the truth. lol |
after doing my burn out i put my 55 in reverse and stopped at the line. lights went down and i took off 100mph. in reverse.
|
Well I took a shot at some bottom bulb racing this year in the S-10. Good burnout, bumped in, flickered the bulb and was set. Told myself head down on the bottom and kill the last yellow. That plan went great until the top light came on and I killed it. LOL.
And I have attempted to stage the dragster using the rear tires. Got a little sideways in the burnout and rolled a little long. Got lost backing up and thought I had cleared the lights. Backed in and left the prestage light on using the rears. |
55 Years of racing? Too many to count! Probably averaged one a week . . .
I've shot myself in the foot so many times there's nothing left but scar tissue! |
I would love to find todd's old post about breaking his ignition key in the stagging lane. That had to be the funniest drag racing moment ever!

heading home after a weekend about 50mph parashoot opened.Someones kid was going around pulling pins.happened to 4 others thankfully no accidents,no damage.

Here is a video of some races from several years ago with my old truck.
My  is at 1:40. This was actually one of my first times bracket racing. Needless to say I fried my trans that night . I did run it a little after that, but not much. My trans guy said it looked like burnt grease in the converter and trans. IDK how that happened. lol! At 1:26 I shifted into netural by accident. My shifter was kinda messed up and it went from low all the way to netural. I used to shift right at the line and let it free roll in high to a stop. At 3:05 I would have loved to have been able to ride the wheelie out, but it was going to the left guardrail. I sure do miss that truck and those races! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F2_UCudGZPQ&feature=player_embedded#! |

( hint) it wasn't the NOS button !...my excuse...why TIRE SHAKE OF COURSE !...nobody knew I didn't have enough HP to go into Tire shake..BUT THATS MY STORY AND I AM STICKING TO IT !

I Got One!
This is too embarrasing but here goes. How about driving 3 hours to an event open the door to the trailer only to realize you don't have a car in there.
Kris Hate to admit that but yes it did happen. |

Kris Hate to admit that but yes it did happen. Like you it was a 3 or 4 hr drive then pulled the door down and ... Anybody ever not put the hitch all the way down on the ball? I have a friend that's done this SEVERAL times. It beat the crap out of his really expensive motor home when the safety chains caught it and snatched it back and forth. |
Knock on wood that that hasn't happened to me. I've forgotten the pin before and had to stop along the side of the road to put it in if I could find it.

Fortunately I don't embarrass easily, however t-boning a trash drum with my brand new, state of the art SG Corvette did it......

The other car leaves first, I leave and go red. Then I look over in the other lane and see his drive-shaft rolling down the track.
And of course, the win light is already on for his lane! :( |
Well here we go, back in the old days, when you could use bleach to do a burn out, my brother and i were brakeing in a new set of slicks, he poured the bleach, i backed into it, pumped the brakes, opened the door, looked back at the slicks, and giver hell, problem being, open face helmet, buddys standing on the sidelines, and being in reverse, needless to say, it slung that crap all over my face, and every thing else.
|
Well we've giot some real doozies on here !
Hopefully 'we' learn from those 'Dumb Schitt' Moments....    |
they are dumb moments brother, there funny moments!! hell how many times have you seen someone leave the lites backwards!!. i didnt get to see cause i was doing it!. and when everyone was cheering and laughing all i could think of was get out a take a bow, and thats just what i did! then the crowd really went wild. i loved it.

70 chevelle moments
Doing a shake down /test and tune day with a new combo, launched the 70 Chevelle, it lauches hard, I no longer see the race track, try and set the car down "like a butterfly with tender feet" , wack it again the car lifts ,went down the track. Happy with the time (no trans brake used yet) The female photographer comes up and says great wheelie, you did a good job setting it down soft, so the next time you go up let me know. What she did not know was that my leg was still cramped up from pushing it against the roll bar so hard.I had seen my partners set cars down slowly but its easier to watch then do. I only set it down slowly because I was scared, and my legs did not react because of the cramping !!!I felt that same pain for 3 days. I failed to tell the photo girl that part. The next time I went up to run my buddy's car was in the other lane and I wasted my convertor on the burn out so no pictures, except of us pushing the car backwards to get it out of the way. :( Thats how it goes !!!!!!!

One hard launch and finding the steering wheel in your hands 6" from the steering column is a lesson you only need to learn once  . No damage done (was a red light also) Sure got my attention when installing the wheel after that..

Pinks all out maple grove 2010,i made 2 perfect passes on the pro tree,i nailed the tree both passes and went 10.01 both runs ,i was in F class 10.00 to 10.49,then came the arm drop,i staged the car and then i was all thumbs,i started to get the rs up on the brake, realized he dropped his arms,so i just went. Was dead late and the car went 9.97. But my most embarasing time at the track was when i ran out of fuel right after the burnout and had to get pushed off, what an idiot, forgot to put fuel in the car,,,WTF.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C7UDe...eature=related The link for pinks,my run is at 14 seconds in the vid...black camaro
