First Test n Tune

Well, last weekend was the first time on the track with my car. I've been building this car for the last 6 years on and off. The track is only 380ft but its close to home. The car ran great had no issues but I thought my 60's would be better, I know that cam isn't the best for drag racing, it's just what I had. is it hurting it that much? here's the list. what do you guys think?

60' 1.60s 330' 4.51 72mph
67 camaro all steel except hood
9" 4:30 gears, 29x12 slicks
powerglide 1.76 pro brake 8"vert with 5200 stall
aerospace discs all round

BBC 496
13:1 srp pistons
scat forged rotating assembly
brodix racerite oval port heads
edelbrock tunnel ram two 600 holleys
isky hyd. roller 284 294 @ 50 600 lift 110 lobe sep.

You can't be serious ! 380 FEET ???!!!!
It's over before you've STARTED !!
That hot rod is GORGEOUS, but it needs more room to RUN !!!!

cam67152 05-04-2010 07:27 AM

It's very short :!: your on the brakes fast they use the front staight away on the oval track. It's good for test n tune thats about it!

signsbyesa 05-04-2010 08:41 AM

MAN NICE CAMERO, with that much compression 13:1 i would run
a bigger cam, get more air, are you running a vacum pump?

cam67152 05-04-2010 10:17 AM

I plan on upgrading the cam for next season I just wanted to get it out this year so I put what I had in it. I just thought it would 60' a little better than that! I'll see if I can post a video to see what you guys think. I see alot of guys on here are running a lunati solid roller with this size engine I think its the 50222 is that correct?
no I'm not running a vacum pump.

Very sweet lookin' ride! I'm with you, the 60's are kinda slow. IMO, with the long duration of that cam, it's going to favor higher rpm. I'd say it needs more gear and higher stall speed. Say around 4.56-4.88's and 5800 stall. I know that tunnel rams look cool, but I'd go with a single 1050 Dominator on a 454R......

cam67152 05-04-2010 10:52 AM

Sorry that duration is advertised not @50

johnracer 05-04-2010 11:05 AM

In that case, it should have a lotta grunt and should 60 better than that. Was it spinning?

Nice car!! I like that the tires are not to big and not to small very very sharp car!! saying I like the car would be an understatement. I LOVE THE CAR

The tunnel ram is what is killing the short times. JMO

cam67152 08-22-2010 09:10 PM

I finnaly got the car out on a full quarter on Aug 8.
I loosened up the front shocks and softened the rear and was rewarded will a 1.46 60ft
I think there is still a litte more in it. I hope to ditch that cam, carbs and intake go to a solid roller, victor and dominator for next year. This cam was out of steam well before the finish line.
I know this is a mismatch of parts, got such a awesome deal on this motor I would have paid as much for a good short block.

1.46 60ft
10.80@ 121.89mph with help from my crew chief

What rpm are you going thru the traps at? 1/4 ?
the gearset may be hurting you, How heavy is the car, Stall ??
We have a 2000 lb firebird that runs that gearset with a 565 in it.
same 430 rear.

chevy582r10 08-30-2010 06:58 PM

You need better heads and a better cam. 13 to 1 compression and racerite oval port heads? Even if they are the biggest one's they're marginal for that size engine. A solid roller with a decent set of heads should make a nice difference. Personally I'd keep the t-ram and carbs, maybe upsize to 750's later on. A t-ram is the cheapest way to get 30-50 hp. Plus you get that super responsiveness you just can't get with a single carb.

6700 thru the traps (29"tire)
5200 stall
I haven't weighed the car yet, I'm thinking its around 3000lbs
