Gideon13 (Chris Thornton) can't be trusted

Gideon13 aka Chris Thornton advertised a '67 Chevelle fiberglass hood with scoop for sale. I responded, we agreed on a price. I should have gotten the bad vibe when he didn't want to use an escrow service, but just wanted me to send the money for the hood and shipping first. I posted the money with escrow.com, on January 25th. After two weeks, and his ignoring two emails asking where is my hood, I called him. He responded back with an email saying he had problems that were not my business, and that he would send the hood at some time in the future that he would not specify. Last week, he reposted the ad in Racingjunk, and yesterday, he cancelled the deal through escrow.com. My money has been tied up for over a month, and the guy doesn't do what he promises. I was charged the full fee of $25 by escrow.com when he cancelled. He is also trying to sell a Chevelle VIN plate, which is illegal. Deal with this guy at your own risk.

Do you have the ad #s for these products?? They would help out a lot.

BEAST477 02-12-2010 09:00 AM

Do you have an ad # so we can contact him and ruffle his feathers a bit?

Harbone 02-12-2010 09:25 AM

Here is the current ad number 1786848

I messaged him let's see if he show's :?: :?:

''JUST MY TWO CENT'S WORTH''

gideon13 02-12-2010 12:32 PM

well im here and this guy is crying over property that he has not paid for yet. i have never ripped anyone off and have never had to use an escrow service. to me the bad vibe has come from this guy because he also asked me to lower the price then he asked me to split the escrow fee. well im the one who is out the shipping (135.00) if he refuses to buy it. im the one who has to get all the legwork done. well damn i guess me doing all the work here is really reason enough for him to gripe. then i advise him that back surgery is about to happen i have allot of things to get done and cannot do it right now. then he says when are YOU going to ship MY hood. last i looked it is sitting in my garage and no greenbacks are in my hand and i guess that makes it MY hood. i never said i wouldn't sell him the hood just not going to happen right now. then he goes and reports a sale on the hood and that has not happened either. so i should hang my ass out there for him to refuse the hood, keep it, and then tell escrow.com that its shipped back, yeah right. this guy is very demanding and feels that he has been screwed over. do you want your 25.00 dollars that you are crying over back? i will be glad to send that to you. i would rather be out 25.00 that out 135.00 and a hood. i deal with and tell people to deal with USPS money orders, so that if i or they dont feel comfortable then there is the federal theft aspect to deal with if i or they do not follow through. i have bought on here allot and sold and i dont need to rip anyone off. i dont work that way. so from your own opinion. because now i have a better option on the hood if he wants to buy it, and only for him. no shipping pick up only. now that way you will be able to view the hood in person and decide up front if it is worth buying or not.

Thank You Drive Through

Thank you for coming on here and telling us your side of this. Also welcome to the forums.

Well the bold part is usually how it goes. But if he wanted it one way why would you try to go another route with paying him??

gideon13 02-12-2010 12:50 PM

yes it is true about the VIN plate. i see them on here all the time so i did not know it was illegal to do so. matter of fact i saw one for a 33 willys or something to that effect today or yesterday, cannot remember.

i did send him a nice post so he will not feel left out i even copied it and frankly i am really pissed off about this. here it is.

good for you. make sure to post this on there too. i dont know what your problem is, nor do i now care. but the last time i checked i own this hood. if i decide to change a deal then its my perogative(spelling). now you are trying to lable me as a scammer and i have stolen or taken nothing. fine, if that is how you operate then you yourself look suspect in any and all future dealings that you may have. YOU LIED TO ME WHEN YOU SAID THAT RACINGJUNK OFFERED ESCROW.COM. WELL THEY DONT. so i am not going to ask you to remove it of the scammer list i reeally dont care. i have done nothing wrong except to piss you off. your nonchalant way of responding to my back surgery and saying "cant you get someone else to do it" was really pathetic and very rude. i guess so long as you get what you want then phuck everyone else is ok with you. i do not have to answer to you. so go on and blast me some more, for something i have not done, and that was rip you off.

gideon13 02-12-2010 12:51 PM

sorry think i hit the new topic button by mistake so ignore the thread that states HOOD by itself

gideon13 02-12-2010 12:56 PM

also if you read through this sending and responding of emails it says that racingjunk offers escrow.com through them. now if RJ offers this this i guess i may be wrong. but noone has ever told me this before.

You know something aint adding up here. He claims that he sent emails asking where his hood was and yet I dont see them.

Is this all the emails that was exchanged between you 2 gideon13??

gideon13 02-12-2010 01:13 PM

thought i might ad a little sumpn sumpn. custom tanks two post down i sent him 100.00 for a kirkey seat a short while back and this guy [email protected] username dfriis i just sent 90.00 just a few minutes ago for some Jomar stud girdles and that my friend is how you pay for stuff. oh, just so noone thinks i am hiding anything. i have two accounts on here, due to the fact i have alot of friends that asked me to sell their stuff too. the other account is
steakandracingfuel.

i have been on the phone with RJ staff themselves and i can guarantee you that they wouldnt waste their time even on the phone if i was such a badguy. because i am sure they take note of users who are.

gideon13 02-12-2010 01:16 PM

oh no he sent them to my yahoo address too, but i erased them. i didnt really think he would blow it up like this. boy was i wrong. so now i have started a racingjunk folder in my email and i will store and keep all emails from RJ and my yahoo account in this folder. so i cannot prove he wrote this but i have no reason to lie. its not like i have anything that belongs to him and not returning emails or calls . so, you live and you learn LOL!

I have seen your name steakandracingfuel on here before.

THERATTLER 02-12-2010 02:34 PM

didn't you buy the laptop from littlerod??

gideon13 02-12-2010 03:59 PM

thats me.

DirkaDirka 02-14-2010 07:24 PM

Man he hasnt been on in awhile must not be true about Gideon13.

steakandracingfuel 02-15-2010 08:48 PM

well because he got so demanding and to me overstepped himself a bit. i would rather sell to someone else and not have the hassle. i dont give this much hassle to anyone i am buying from. i do have another guy that wants the hood and he agrees to send money up front. it is supposed to be here tues. or wed. and i will keep you posted on how that deal works out.

when i buy first thing i ask is Paypal? and usually talk to them on the phone then i send it because i dont want to miss a part that i want.

But.... i have started searching their names in this section ever since i found the post on Jason Brooks and we know who he is. and its because i showed him up front no B.S. that he wanted to make the deal a good one. so i try, but i didnt feel comfortable sending anything without being paid for it.

Mousemuscles may be a really great guy. but i dont know him, and he stated that in an email to me also. but when asked to lower price the asked to escrow, it seemed that i was the one doing all the bending and trying to accommodate him that when i wanted something then he became unbending and made uncomfortable about the whole thing.

MEMRACING62 02-16-2010 07:31 PM

NO SCAM HERE

THERATTLER 02-17-2010 04:36 AM

It is the ole one post hit and run anyway.. .as most are ,,seems like :(

mousemuscles 02-17-2010 09:25 AM

I don't have as much time to write on this forum as gideon13 seems to but here is my last response to all this. I, like most racers, race on a budget. I saw his ad for a damaged hood, and figured I could repair it and use it. I offered him $25 less than his asking price. He accepted. The shipping he quoted me was an additional $130. As anyone can see by the exchange of email HE posted here, I asked to use Escrow.com (recommended by Racingjunk) to protect BOTH of us in the deal. He never siad he was having problems that would prevent him from sending the hood until about two weeks AFTER I posted the money with escrow.com, and that was only after I sent him two more emails and left a message on his phone asking about the hood. Yeah, I called it MY hood, cause MY money was already posted to pay for it. I don't know how he works, but if I make a deal with someone, I follow through. He NEVER said WHEN he would send it, just "not now". Lastly, yes, it is a violation of federal, and most states laws to sell a VIN plate. It allows someone who is dishonest to fake a car, and is often used to try to legitimize a stolen car. What did he THINK someone would want it for?

Well then why dont you come on here and post the emails that you recieved . That will show us if they match up or not. Also I know a few people that collect old VIN tags just because. So you not everybody wants them to try to do illegal things with them.

mousemuscles 02-17-2010 10:17 AM

I don't know how to post emails I've gotten from my MSN account. I'm not trying to start a war with anyone. I posted the scam warning to warn others about my experience. If you want ot deal with him, go ahead. I know I won't. I have no idea how gideon13 thinks he did all the bending. My money was tied up for two weeks, and he wasn't answering my emails asking when the hood was. I don't know the guy, what would you have thought? When he finally answered, he siad he was "going to cancel for now". What does that mean to you? I have been the only one to lose in this deal. We were supposed to split the fee with Escrow.com. When he welshed on the deal, they charged the whole fee to me because my funds were there. His wasn't. He's saying in this forum that he has lots of friends. If he was laid up and had made a deal, why couldbn't he ask a friend to send the hood? Once I posted my money with Ecsrow.com, I can't get it back unless the deal is cancelled. How long would YOU have waited, especially when he's leaving it open ended about when he'll send it?

WHAT THE HELL DO YOU CARE WHAT SOMEBODY DOES WITH THE VIN PLATES, WHAT ARE YOU JONNY LAW   . HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR DEAL, JUST A ROCK TO THROW.

mouse , all kidding aside , why don't you try calling chris up on the phone and try to work this out with him , He seems (Chris) to be a pretty good guy , mayby he will split the fee with you and be done with all this ...$25.00 isn't worth all this , hell if you are that broke , give me your adress and I will send it to you.. just no escrow or whatever you called it...never heard of it on here anyway , ...one last question , would you send out a part that you didn't have your hands on the actual money beforehand??? be honest now...

Not taking sides, but I would never ship you a hood that you did not pay for in advance. If it was as described, you own it. BUT, there are lots of people who think they can change their mind at the shippers expense. You could get the hood and simply say you did not like it to the escrow company and you are off the hook. I don't know you, but this is not an escrow type part in my opinion. Gideon has honor payments on his steakandracingfuel account and has posted on the forum. I would have taken that as a good sign. I just simply would not leave myself self open to lose that much money on a subjective item. JMO

Apparently none of you have ever used Escrow.com. This was my first attempt to make a purchase on Racingjunk, in spite of being on the site for a couple of years. Racingjunk suggests using this site in a message that comes up when you're negotiating for an item. The buyer (me) posts the money for the item, their fee, and the shipping with the escrow company. They hold the money and let the seller know they have the funds, and to ship the item. The buyer is on the hook for the shipping cost whether he keeps the part or sends it back. If he sends it back, the buyer has to pay the return shipping. This transaction protects the buyer AND the seller. I'm not upset because of the $25. I'm upset that Chris made a deal to send me a hood, and didn't do it. Plain and simple. I was raised that a man is as good as his word. If Chris couldn't ship the hood in a timely fashion, he shouldn't have made the deal. I didnb't try to buy it because I wanted a hood "sometime". I need it now to get it ready in time for the season. BTW, not only am I a retired police officer, I've had to take stolen cars away from people who bought one that they thought had a righteous title only to find out someone had put a clean VIN plate on a stolen car, so yeagh, I care about someone selling a VIN plate.

I dont know what you are talking about when you mention this escrow stuff. I am making a deal right now thru RJ and it has never asked me or brought up anything about this escrow thing.

Go to "My Messages" page. On the right is a box that is captioned "Hints on Using Racingjunk Safely" About halfway down is says "take a look at the resource section, there are links to escrow services..." That's how I found the site called Escrowservices.com. Man, if I'd have known it was going to be this much of a hassle, I'd have never started this process. All I wanted was a hood for my race car.

If you go to the racing junk home page, click on "Help". Then click on 'FAQ"s. It's under the heading, "How do I prevent getting scammed"?

Mousemuscles way is simpler.

would you ship someone a part if you did not have money in hand???
not me , never ever ,,, , I am x deputy sheriff , therefore I trust no one , if they don't have cash to hand me , sorry , thats the way it is these days....

mousemuscles 02-17-2010 05:23 PM

That's the reason for escrow.com. Use an uninterested third party like them or Paypal that is endorsed by Racingjunk. You don't have the money in hand, but a trusted third party does. That's why it's called escrow. I would use them anytime. I tried to this time. I thought I was being clear on this. Am I not explaining it well?

THERATTLER 02-17-2010 05:31 PM

you explained in very well , all I said was ,,trust nobody , including third parties , for ME , I want cash in MY hand before anything leaves my shop , thats just my preference , you have yours , I have mine..don't want somebody else HOLDING my money,,,sorry.....Paul
