Spray Can Carb. Cleaner

I use the crap out of the Gumout carb. spray, except on carburetor's. How about you? One day I was at the Advane store & decided to try one their own store brand instead. You know, then the price difference was about a buck cheaper. I bought my usual 6 cans. First time I used it that stuff left the oilest film when it dried. Anybody else been there? I KNOW, I KNOW, Dumb topic, or is it. HMMMMM! ok, Maybe I'm bored, been kind of a slow week. Kris p.s. this one isn't as bad as the guy who can check compression ratio w/ the motor running.

I USE THE DOLLER STORE BRAND BRAKE PARTS CLEANER ON EVERYTHING THATS NOT PAINTED , WORKS GREAT , PRETTY GOOD PAINT REMOVER , TOO

kbartley 05-21-2009 06:37 PM

me too

I mostly get the gumout at the dollar store but since they changed the style can its gone up to $3.00 a can. I go into the same store every week and buy a case. Of coarse they look at me like I'm up to no good.

mopar1968 05-21-2009 06:44 PM

I use gumout also.

Berryman B-12.

I would never use ANYTHING made by Pennzoil. Sorry but I was an auto parts salesman for 12 years.

itsabird 05-22-2009 03:30 AM

i also use brake cleaner, dries fast, and leaves nothing behind.

hammertime 05-22-2009 03:54 AM

WoW, didn't expect any response to this one. Ok, let me ask you this. How many actually like the smell of the cleaner they use?

Man I'm glad that went the way it did. Good! Let's not get on the SHARPIE pen subject. I know a fabricator/welder that takes a BIG OL SNIFF as soon as he takes the top off.

Hydrocloric-acid seems to work well for cleaning things. it is cheap too... since pools are cleaned with it. I can't seem to figure out where all the small rubber things dissapear to though... or how the gaskets just dissapear. Anyways, other than a few small pits & creaters it can leave, it really does the job. Be sure to use eyewear... it sure makes alot of smoke which can make you blind. Also- change your rubber gloves every 10 minutes too; it can burn your skin if you don't.

we have acid tanks at work that take rust off of tubing that has been sitting around awhile and other things...they are constantly checking the PH

us7race 05-24-2009 08:17 PM

I don' t recommend spraying Brake parts cleaner in your air bleeds while the motor is running in a garage..even with the garage door open, it gives off a bad odor, the kind that takes your breath away..

txhunter69 05-26-2009 08:46 AM

Muratic acid works well to clean aluminum parts, but!! Use safety measures needed handling acid and don't leave it on to long or it will turn the part black. Test it on something alum. that is not important to get a sense of the time it takes. They used to sell it in squirt bottles for uncoated aluminum wheels before we all became to dumb to protect ourselves. And I say that with tongue planted firmly in cheek.
