Summit Stall Converters
Anyone had any experiences with the Summit Stall Converter for Powerglide? Just doing a mildly built small block with a Bracket II cam. Need a Stall over 3 grand. This one is the cheapest "I know you get what you pay for"... It's down to that and an ACC 32 to 3600 stall. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Luke I run a COAN too....great converter I think if someone is looking at a $200-$300 Summit converter for a mild engine...sending them to lok at a COAN is gona make him inhale deeply...LOL. Mine was almost $1000 |
Yeah thanks man but I think that's a little more than I'm looking for. If I were to be going "all out" on a converter I would buy a TCI, LOL. I'm just looking for a stall from 32-3600 for a 3 grand truck. It's a 350 with pro top line heads, Lunadi bracket II cam, vic jr intake, Holley 750 on a glide with 410's and a 26 inch tire. This is just a part time hobby throwing together some stuff I already had and just need to button up. Thanks again though for your input, always looking to learn!

Don't know how much Summit charges for their converters, but i use PTC converters, and you can buy a bullet proof 10" built specific converter from Kenny Ford @ PTC for about $400.00, i did for my prostreet Sonoma 4,000 stall.

I have a Hughes in my dragster and a Transmission Specialties in my truck. I have had good luck with both of them. I've never had much luck with B&M stuff...
|
I had the SAME Bill Taylor converter in my dragster for over 10 years with 2 rebuilds origonal cost around $500 rebuilds around $200.very happy with performance :D l
|
i ran a neal chance and it ran great for a 3000 stall, on a 383,

Fleenor Racing Powerglides. 419-280-1406 This is who I will be ordering ALL my stuff from, from now on. He is a TSI dealer and one hell of a guy.
|
It's just a street car with a mild engine....a budget off the shelf converter will work fine.
|
Thank you for the replies fellas! So unless I'm spending the dough on a converter with the anti-ballooning plate then, they are all about the same? I had one guy tell me the ACC converters on ebay are really good for the money but I had never heard of them.

I can't speak for Summit brand converters but I did buy a Jegs brand 9 inch converter (4500-48000 rpm)
I ran it for 2 years zero problems behind a fairly stout BBC 468. If I remember correctly I paid around $300 for it. Now I run and swear by Transmission Specialities (T/S) 8 inch spragless converters. Kinda pricey though, around $1000 to your door. Cp |
I have ran just about all of the converters out there coan ptc tci art carr b&m and BTE and they all have worked very well for me ran a PTC for 4 years broke it last year ran a art carr for 4 years and i have a soft hit bte in the car now i do like the soft hit the car is very consistent .
I don't know who is the best if there is such a thing you can buy them from 300.00 to 3000 grand lord knows i have spent enough on them and like i said they all seem to work good. I guess what I'm saying is if you are happy with it then that's the one. I have found out for me that maintenance is the key to it all heat will kill one i found out that the hard way. |
I have an ACC converter pn 47013 that is 2800 - 3200. I had it in my 67 C10 street cruiser for about 300 miles. I am building a 406 for it now, so I swapped it out for a TCI. It worked pretty good for me. My 350 is similar to yours. Im not trying to turn this into a classified, but I would take $100 for it plus the ride. Its just sittin around here.

Hey Josh, what was it stalling for you in that truck? I may be interested. Thanks!
|
I could torque it up to about 2500 on the footbrake before it would spin the tires.
|
Hey bud, is that not for a th350? I need one for a glide. Apparently it's not easy to find a 3500 stall cheap.
|
It is turbo spline, but most people I know run turbo spline converters in their powerglide. You just need a turbo spline shaft. The tranny in my race truck has a turbo spline converter and my dragster has a glide spline. If you dont need it, its no big deal I was just throwin it out there...
You can check out transmission specialties converters at http://transmission-specialties.com/...a1ba1a312770fe They can be bought for a fair price and are pretty good quality. |

I bought a turbo spline shaft convertor from edge racing convertors for my glide and just needed a turbo shaft for it to work, and never had a days trouble with it. I've been told by a number of people that the turbo spline shaft is stronger. It sould fit fine.

I HAD A G.E.R. 3000 CONVERTER, WENT TO A EDGE 3000 CONVERTOR CUSTOM BUILT FOR MY CAR AND GAINED A 1/2 SECOND IN THE 1/4 MILE AND 500 LESS RPMS THROUGH THE TRAPS... ALOT OF THE CHEAPER CONVERTORS WILL JUST WHIND THE ENGINE OUT INSTEAD OF GRABBING AND BUILDING SPEED.. ALSO EDGE CONVERTORS GARANTEES A LOWER ET OR YOUR MONEY BACK..
|
My friend bought one of my Edge convertors from me and sent it back to them to have it spec. to his motor. He ran 3 10ths quicker when he got it back and ran it. I cant remember the guy I talked to at Edge (been about 6 years) but he had 30 years of experience with racing convertors and had worked for some of the bigger names out there. Great convertors. Forgot that they quarentee quicker times or your money back. Is yours a 9 1/2 inch also?
|
MY EDGE IS A 10 1/2 INCH, I RUN ON THE STREET ALOT, LAST YEAR WENT 11.36 AT 119 WITH A 383.. THEY GUY YOU WANT TO TALK WITH IS AUNDRE, VERY NICE, WWW.EDGERACINGCONVERTERS.COM I DID HAVE MINE CONVERTER STALL LOWERED ONCE FOR THE NOS AND AUNDRE SENT IT BACK TO ME AND SAID PAY HIM LATER!!! NOW WHO IN THIS WORLD WOULD DO THAT..
|
What about these Redneck converters? They say they have the anti-ballooning plate in them for under 300?
