compression

what is the compression ration for a stock 1990 454 fuel injected

CamBirdRacing 04-08-2009 05:10 PM

About 7.6-8 to 1 ,not much

killapits26 04-08-2009 05:14 PM

i want to up the compression just for a stree rod its in a ss truck what can i do

bowhay 04-08-2009 05:25 PM

well if ur lookin to rabuild just have some head work done and get some flattop pistons
but i fnot u could just buy some new heads with a smaller combustion chamber
and if u dont want to spend that money u could even cheap out and just take the heads and have a valve job done and have them mill the heads down a few ccs

killapits26 04-08-2009 05:29 PM

i was thinking of buying new heads and cam but don't know what to go with

bowhay 04-08-2009 05:33 PM

dart iron eagles are the best for the money
but world makes a good head too and they're a lil cheaper
and cam wise i say a comp or voodoo prolly around a 520 lift

killapits26 04-08-2009 05:37 PM

thanks that should wake it up some. still trying to figure how much horse power it came with from factory

bowhay 04-08-2009 05:39 PM

i figure it prolly came with about 400 give or take a few

killapits26 04-08-2009 05:44 PM

thats what i figured to but the heads they put on it suck got to wake it up and let it breath if u know what i mean

bowhay 04-08-2009 06:33 PM

CamBirdRacing 04-09-2009 03:10 AM

Maybe 400 lbs of torque, but not HP.

Scooterz 04-09-2009 02:01 PM

Yep about 250-260 sounds about right. A 1992 350 truck (C/K 1500) application w/ TBI all stock was only about 155/hp!! You would be surprised how little HP they had.

killapits26 04-09-2009 03:55 PM

i knew it didn't feel like it had alot, so i got to do something about that trying to make a nice show truck with a little pep

tcarda 04-09-2009 04:05 PM

Is your 1990 a Gen V block? If it is, I think you will have to find some heads for the Gen V block for the upper water hole alignment. I am not positive, but you will have to check it out.

MEMRACING62 04-09-2009 04:17 PM

EDELBROCK SELLS PREFORMANCE PACKAGES WITH HEADS CAM MANIFOLD ETC THAT SHOULD DO WHAT YOU ARE LOOKING FOR. WITH TBI & EMISSIONS YOU ARE KINDA LIMITED. CHECK THEM OUT. MIKE

Tod74 04-09-2009 06:59 PM

PISTONS ARE WAY CHEAPER THAN HEADS.

killapits26 04-09-2009 08:00 PM

i was wanting to switch from the 2 barrel tbi over to the efi from edelbrock or just convert to carb

zipper06 04-09-2009 08:56 PM

Is this a duelly truck by chance :?: I wouldn't touch it if it is, i can guarentee you that the Edelbrock EFI, will not be worth the $2,000.00 over the throttle body. If it's conventual truck, not a duelly, you'd be better off to change the heads, and up the cam a little and stay with the throttle body. I've got a 1993 duelly with 189,000 miles on it and it pulls a 28 ft Haulmark with an over 3,000 lb car all day as fast as the speed limit allows, and will still spin the tires with no load on it, i wouldn't touch it for nothing. It's never had any engine work done too it, but i'm a little surprised that the plastic timing gear hasn't gone out yet.
