Got blocked for making initiial cash offer ?????

i saw a 142 sbc low profile blower on the classifieds for $1600....I DO NOT need a blower and do not have a small block period...but because i could possibly build one sometime in the distant future i figured i would make an offer of what the blower would be worth to me just to sit on the shelf for now..

so i made an offer of $900 plus shipping and explained i didn't need it (blower) but would shoot an offer to him but understood if he was not interested.

1st- i knew the offer was low and somewhat apologized for that in my 1st message offer..I trully expected a counter offer from him or at least $1600 is my firm price anything but a blocker on my reply pm's.

2nd- i started not to even send the offer but i figured what the heck he might except or maybe a counter offer could be agreed upon somewhere in the middle. It was just an offer thats it..Right.?..isn't that the way it works of have i been doing this wrong for over 40 yrs ?

3rd- Since Money is tight right now i figured the seller would be glad to get a real Bon-fide cash offer from someone with at least a chance to make a counter offer..right ?.. isn't that how it normally works ?

so what does the seller do..he sends me back a pm telling me "i made the offer politely but still insulted him "?...and to make it worse i tried to pm him back to see what he would take for the blower and he blocked me from sending him messages.......WTF ?...LOL :D

LMAO !...i was only trying to buy the blower from him...I guess he should have checked my profile...lol..

anyhow i guess thats his right...if ya reading this ed..sorry i pissed ya off so bad for trying to give you some cash...that trully wasn't my intention and i hope you do not pay advertsied dollar on stuff your interested in without inquiring if the seller would take less

also i had my mind made up i would have Come up to $1500..if ya wanted to kick it around a little...thats how it works most of time..
oh well...i wish him (ed) luck and i am sure he is a good guy..he has many honor payments....with that said

i can buy a 142 blower anytime i want they are not that rare...lol :D ...i just need a good used one anyhow..

I guess getting blocked was the hit in the a$$ for me...lol..but its a 1st time for everything.

Brian.

Give me your thoughts guys ?...what would you have done...

here's the ad thread in case anyoee would like to check it out..

Brian

also here is my pm and his reply..i tried to send him back a pm to see what the bottom dollar was and he blocked me....lol :D

You put it politely, but still a little insulting.

Wow did you see how many honor payments he has made 43!!!!!!!

Dang Bjuice I was 100% on your side until I saw that, Eds66Nova is the Sh*t.

No really I think a cash offer should be politely denied or returned with a counteroffer. But this guy is doing something right, looks like he's honest and a good seller. Bucking him would be like fighting with the Pope. I don't agree with him blocking your PMs but its his choice.

Hey lets get him on here and tell us how he sells so well. Now thats someone I would have liked to win the RJ trailer. I'll PM him and tell him your a good guy and maybe we can get him on the Forum. TC & GB

bjuice 01-12-2009 02:15 PM

lol...ya dparker i seen the same thing as you did when i saw his Honor payments...thats one of the reasons why i chose to try and deal with this guy...Honor payments and time on the board...maybe he clicked the wrong Button....lol..

also the Blocking is my only Gripe or should i say Question.

Hell i give up...lol...i am not pissed..it's comical to me actually. :D

slowmotion 01-12-2009 02:48 PM

A drunk was sitting in a bar next to a very attractive woman. He asks her "Would you have sex with me for 1 million dollars?". She said "Yes I would.".
He then asked "Would you have sex with me for 5 bucks?".
She replies "NO, WHAT KIND OF A WOMAN DO YOU THINK I AM?"

He says "We've already established that. Now we're just negotiating the price". :D

What this has to do with this thread? I dunno. It's just my favorite barganing story.

Hey ! Ya gotta start SOMEwhere ! When I'm selling stuff and get a low, low offer, I don't get 'insulted' for cripes sake ! I say "No thanks, try again" until we do or do not come to a fair price. Or " No thanks I'm very firm on that price". All done politely. My junk isn't so darn holy as to be above someone offering a low price. :?

mopar1968 01-12-2009 05:34 PM

  Well i guess he doesn't like money :? :? Sound's like a fair offer, I didn't see any insulting word's there. Maybe someone else pissed him off,

i agree a man with 40 plus honor payments has to be a decent Guy.i know its not personal cause he doesn't know me. IMO maybe not the best sales practice but hey we all have our own ways of doing things.

its not a Biggie i wish him well.

thanks- Brian

Tod74 01-12-2009 10:53 PM

lol...if it were not for the fact he looks like a good person(43 honor payments) I would have already pm'd him with an offer of $800

You could be like a guy my DAD worked with...he looked at a truck the price was $1200 OBO..dad asked what he gave/offered for it and he said $1400 rofl

yep you do,and starting at half price is a great place to start,,steve

gearhead1011 01-13-2009 05:48 AM

I usually price my stuff for more than what I want because it seems that most people won't buy unless they negotiate for a better deal, no matter how good of a deal it is to start with. If an ad states it's a firm price then don't bother making any other offer. I agree with the idea of just politely declining an offer that's not acceptable or making a counter offer.

Juice-

Is this not a clear case of the art of negotiating??? I don't care if you offered 400.00, it is not personal. It is not like you are wasting his time, you just sent him a message!!! How the hell else does a guy get a really good buy??? It is a "take it, or leave it" question. No harm done- I see nothing wrong with what you did... SOME OF THE BEST DEALS I HAVE EVER MADE ARE BECAUSE I HAD THE BALLS TO ASK. Blocking you is unecessary!! Give me a break... Rigsby

bjuice 01-14-2009 01:23 PM

Ya Rigs..i just lauged it off..i really just posted what happened just to get to share some good conversation with you Guys.

i have nothing personal against this Ed guy and really don't care if he gave the blower to me..its one of those things i really didn't need but would have purchased if it worked out..My money can do a-lot of good here at the house during these tight times anyhow...besides its a 142 run of the Mill Blower you can buy them a dime a dozen anytime you want..as a mattr of fact i just missed a deal Thru Zips friend on a 142 blower with less than 150 miles for $700 and that was his asking price...lol..

what tugs on me a little is he (ed) comes in here almost everyday and reads this post but will not reply ( yes i see you ed, you just can't see me. 8) ).. i wish he would post up..i would like a formal introduction..i can assure him that i would not stoop to his level and Block him from the forum beacuse he blocked me on the classifieds for simply making an offer...But he ( ed) has taken the time toreply to a few buddies of mine on here stating that i tried to steal his blower with a low offer.....now Thats Bullchit ! IMO...
The way i feel about it he will need me LOOOOOONG before i will ever need him Its just a shame it has to be that way period..

But i also feel that way about a one other on here that likes to take cheap shots at me and others and does nothing but complain and bitch all the time..you know who you are and your time is coming..don't worry ! you will know when i have had enough of your senickle attitude ....
( imagine the lamb in the lions den..tic.,toc,tic,toc)...got the idea Yet ! 8)

Sorry Rigs had to get that one In and this person knows who they are when they read this and they will read it i am sure of it....and No ed its not you...you da man in my eyes with all those honor payments...blocker or No blocker......lmao

michael1 01-14-2009 07:08 PM

bjuice, I'm with you. I sold stuff on here for less then what I wanted. I didn't like the offer so I counter offered and he bought it for that price. That is just the way it works. He (ed) has to know who you are and you not just some kid playing games. All he had to do is say no thanks are tell you the price is firm. I hope he works thing out with you because he seems to have a very good reputation on here. If he had something I wanted I would deal with him.

hell bjuice when i sell something i ALWAYS have to "give it away ". i have never sold anything on rj but i dont see where you did anything wrong. thats just part of it.i kinda think he thinks his shi- dont stink.i have a bike for sale now on rj and they have offered me way less than i need for it but i just tell then sorry no can do.i never would have even thought about blocking anyone.kinda low class to me. sorry ed.thats how i feel but i do admire your honesty in making honor payments. i believe you are a good man with integrity but some really bad buisness ideas.had some guy offer me a hoda dirt bike for my chopper. when i got thru laughing i just said no thanks only deal with american iron.now if there ever was a insult that would have been one lol ken

i started out asking $9500 for my wagon, then i came down to $8000 firm,so this guy calls and said i'm looking at yours and another car,the other car is 7500 if you will take 7500 i'll pick it up,i said when are you coming to get it!!LOL!!he said saturday,so i sold it for 7500 and was asking 9500 at one time then 8000 firm, but if he had ask me 4000 i would of probley got pissed but not blocked him, thats just the way i see it,i think its a insult to offer half price on somthing pretty high, although the way some has it priced might only be worth half,,,steve

hollowayshotrods 01-15-2009 07:30 AM

That's sort of crazy I think, to block a mans email that has a sterling reputation. I think it is very important to look at someones profile BEFORE you reply to any offers. I wouldn't exactely call Brians offer a lowball, it was a reasonable and polite offer from a consumer that you KNOW is not going to be problem in the transaction. Considering todays' state of our economy, he should be glad to any offers whatsoever. Besides, what would be wrong with this reply:

"No thanks, (insert your own price) gets it".

There is the end the negotiating process, unless Brian was to buy it.

Having said that, I will say I have been a smartass before to offers, but it must be a ridiculously low offer.
To offer a man $12k for his '69 Camaro (mine) deserves a "kiss my a**".

Just my thoughts as I sit here all bored with cabin fever.

lol..i heard that Steve....i agree there is a Big Difference in the 1/2 price thing when your comparing 10k vs 1500...i sold My 63 vette lets just say over the 60k mark this past September..i did come off several thousand dollars but i would have kindly declined 50k etc ( but would have never blocked that person and trust me i got some offers below that 50k range but i treated those people with all the respect that i treated my Buyer)... i also threw in a set of new slicks cause i seen some bad economy issues rolling down the pipe..it was a good sale for both me and the buyer i do not have a problem saying he ( the buyer)probably ( i know) has a lot more money than i do..but i can say i am 60k plus richer than what i was after the sale was complete... :D
So the $1600 blower deal was not that Big of a deal..its a run of the mill blower( nothing speacial) and i know you were ribbing me with your Last post :D ..i am a good sport ( and you are from clinch Mtn..lol)...but what i did mean was that ED would need my Money loooong before i would need his ever so common Blower...lol :D

Damn Ken i may have directed this to you, and got mixed up on the stories of the 2005 accident. I'm sorry but i just don't like street bikes. Now i raced in the desart from 1975 to 1980 and then went to trials riding, but never the street. I then lived in Phx. and had many friends who were bikers. But never owned a street bike, and never will, i've seen too many people crippled from them, and being 70 yrs. old in 2 weeks i want to go out in my race car, or a natural death, not programmed by some ediot motorest who's not watching out for me.

Zip.

Zip, Ken,
I don't care that the story got mixed up, and I know Ken doesn't either. I am very happy that ya'll think enough of me to leave your opinion about the bike and Wesleys' dream on the table. Ya'll oldsters, (for lack of a better term and said with the utmost of respect) always give me a bit to think about. I do not necessarily fear death, but what I do fear, in all honesty is leaving this earth with my sons' still needing me to guide them.

I waited for many years to get this damn thing, now I am not sure I really want it. Man, life sure is funny :!: :!: :!: :!:

Rudy' just be careful, pretty scooter by the way. I'd like to have a hardtail chopper, but I'd kill myself on it. I had a 750 honda chopper when I was young, but never a real motorcycle. I do go down good though, it's my only talent on a motorcycle, is I go down real pretty, and OFTEN.
