Which carb to use???

OK guys what i have is a 540 chevy with BB2x heads,Brodix intake,cam 772 int. 765 ex. dur@ 50 285 int. 296 ex., 12.6 comp. It's going in a '65 Nova 2850 lbs turbo 400, 5600 stall, 4.56 gears. I already have a Ken Jones 1050 that worked fine on my 477 or do i need more for this setup?

dparker 01-12-2009 11:40 AM

I think your on the border of going to a 1150 from your 1050. I really think your combo will work well with either. I would keep the carb you have, you might gain a couple of .01s with the 1150 but I think the 1050 will be more consistant.

hammertime 01-12-2009 04:08 PM

1050 Should work fine with some adjusting :D

jmarksdragster 01-12-2009 04:53 PM

Frankly I like a bigger carb, but then I ran a 1250 on a 447 SB2, plan to run it on my 461. If your 1050 runs well you won't find a lot of difference, I saw about 20 HP on the dyno between the 1050 and 1250. I wouldn't waste my money on an 1150. You won't see enough difference to be worth it. Unless you plan to put a pair of them on....

BEAST477 01-12-2009 05:20 PM

Thanks guys, i was planning on the 1050 since i already had it but i just wanted some input. Thanks again.

hammertime 03-24-2009 07:35 PM

If you plan to be @ 131 the first few weekends to test I have a 1150 APD gas carb you can bolt on and try. :D

BEAST477 03-26-2009 04:37 PM

Yeah David, i plan on being there on the 4th and the 11th unless it's snowing. I shouldn't say that too loud should i. Thanks for the offer i've also got a 1250 i can try if needed.

bjuice 03-28-2009 05:36 PM

Use that 1050 Beast....PAR uses a 1050 on his bracket series 565ci and gets 1020hp out of them..
check out the link.....

Please do not say snow out loud Mike. I still have not had a good enough day (or time on a good day) to fire up my 582. It is sleeting out right now, my timing light is hooked up and she is full of water. Just needs C 15 and decent weather and a minor pre lube. Michigan weather sucks at this time of year. Out track opens April 5 for testing, weather permitting.

Yeah Bruce and David it wasn't any nicer here today either. But me and four other guys got our cars certified today. We all passed so it was good. Martin opens April 4th test & tune.

No truth at all .. OC will be running, that bike deal happens no fault of the track IMO a bad deal for the family and peopl watching. But for sure they are racing just as always fridays and sundays.

I know Chuck he is the super quick guy right ?

He and I became good friends at a super quick race last year  , good guy :D

hammertime 03-30-2009 06:54 PM

doesnt Tom Block do chassis tags also ?

BEAST477 03-31-2009 03:45 AM

Yes, Tom does them also but is an IHRA tag. We went with NHRA because we want to run my buddies Challenger at the Mopar Classic this year and they require a NHRA cert. And NHRA cert is accepted by everyone where a IHRA is only good at IHRA tracks. Go figure.
