My prayers go out to the Kalitta family. My son was hurt in racing accident a few years ago and that was pretty devestating. I can't imagine the pain the Kalitta family must be feeling at this point. We've lost one of our brothers in the sport. He will be missed by all. Please pray for strength for this family as they go through this time in their lives.

Our Condolences to the Kalitta Family and Friends and Fans
To whom this may concern:
We are sure Scott had the best safety equipment provided with his resources; however, without the tracks having a longer and proper shutdown area, all the safety equipment in the world could not or would not save his life or the life of any other driver. Thank you Racing Junk for allowing us to voice our opinion. Ron & Sue |
i agree with doberman they need more shut down. i was at the finishline yesterday. when didnt hear anything from the top end for a real long time i knew it wasnt good. r i p scott we will miss you.

shut down area
This morning on NHRA today, Jim Head said hes been trying to get the races at shorter tracks changed to 1000 ft or even I/8 mile. As He stated some of the older tracks were designed for 200 mph cars, not 300. A concrete retaining wall at the end of the track is not a pretty sight. One of our local tracks has a barrier and then pine trees.
|
Scott
Our prayers go out for Scott and his family. Hopefully the racing federations will learn from this needless death and insist on longer shut down areas without solid barriers behind the sand pits. You have to give the drivers a better chance of surviving when something does go terribly wrong.
|
I agree the shut down area look way to short.
scott will be missed by everyone. my prayers for his family. Just my opinion, but I think it's awful for ESPN or anybody to show the wreck on TV. they should think more about the family than "viewers" before putting it on TV. jmo!, and i hope this makes all tracks safer. |
IT IS A TERRIBLE THING THAT HAPPENED TO THIS FAMILY
IT IS A VERY, VERY STUPID THING TO BIULD A CONCRETE BARRIER WALL AT THE END OF A DRAG STRIP[ NO MATTER THE LENGTH!!!] NHRA IS 100% RESPONSIBLE FOR THAT STUPIDITY[IT IS THERE SANCTIONED TRACK AND THE SAFETY ISSUES THAT THEY PUT IN PLACE] AS A DRIVER YOU HAVE A RESPONSIBILTY TO CHECK OUT THE TRACK AND AREA YOU ARE GOING TO RUN ON AND HAVE TO STOP ON---YOU CAN REFUSE TO RUN AND FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT WITH THE TRACK AND NHRA!![ I WAS THE SAFETY MAN ON A NICE STOCK CAR TRACK THAT HAD LOUSY GUARDRAILS- UNTIL WE GOT TOGETHER AND HELPED THE OWNER CHANGE THEM AND MADE IT ALOT SAFER] DRAG RACING AT ANY SPEED CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS[LET ALONE AT 300 MILES AN HOUR NOT BEING MEAN OR ANYTHING[ NOBODY SHOULD DIE THAT WAY-PERIOD] AS FAR AS ESPN SHOWING THAT WRECK--IT IS THE MONEY THAT COMES FROM THE HEADLINES   |
I saw earlier they removed the barrier at the end.Just side barriers now. It's going to get to the point where shorter tracks are going to have to add more shutdown or no national event for that track.I personally don't think the races will go to 1000ft mark for T/F.I think NHRA will say (hey here is our new giudelines for shut down. You have this amount of time to update your facility.)
Very sad day none the less.R.I.P Scotty. |
Real sorry to hear the news... God bless the family.
|
We have lost one of the good guys RIP Scott
|
Scott will be missed,RIP. My heart goes out to his family and friends. This is very sad. I pray that God will be with them and comfort them.
NHRA should address what has happened and have longer shut downs, period. At over 300mph your car has to work 100% to be able to stop. There shouldn't be issues of death if you can't stop. I know I know, this is a dangerous sport with these high speeds and anything can happen but we should take every safety measure we can. In drag boat racing the drivers sit in a self contained brake away pod. I was wondering if this would fit our sport? |
